  My sister is a pediatrician focused on nicu. She says the stress she gets is mostly from parents. Let's face it no one wants a sick child but parents are just really stressful to deal with

  They should massively increase the salaries of this specialists in the pediatric field. If it would become one of the highest paid medical fields it could become more attractive to the med students.

  This is so sad! There will not be a future with no children. Who will treat any or the remaining kids? They should cut back on the cosmetic doctors and focus more on having more kids and pediatrics.

  It's not a mystery why there's worker shortages, money talks.  The south Korean government expects the doctors to give up family life for other families.

  I had the chance to rotate in SNU Pediatrics during my last year in medical school and it was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my career.  My mentor during that time was so passionate, she saw around 40 outpatient, this aside from morning rounds and one on one teaching lessons with me as an international student. I hope and pray that more trainees choose pediatrics. I have recently finished my Pedia residency as well, hoping to be as great as the doctors featured here. Kudos!

  If the government is so worried about S. Korea's low birth rate, they need to find more doctors to save the few kids they have.

  As a med student in another country we are facing with the same problem. All med students dream about being plastic surgeon or dermatologist. We lack pediatrics subspecialist. And other very important specialities especially which require surgery.

  as paramedics who works in 3rd world coutries i can sort of understand this problem. Most of doctors would go throught 8-10 years before they become specialized ( like general surgery, ENT, eye surgery, internist, etc), but they would go throught another decade of training to become an expert in their field. Most of time during their training, these doctors would &nbsp;spend 70-80% of their life in hospital, and they often underpaid. even normal civil servant would earn more than these doctors in training. The social pressure to provide for your family, and long hours of shift would often discourage doctors. Yes they have passion, but they also have family which sadly often got ignored. <br>Another sad thing is the truth that many doctors didnt live long enough, because of their lifestyle.

  The Korean health system really needs to sit down and develop a plan for encouraging young doctors in fields where there is scarcity. Why don’t they earmark funds to incentivize and encourage development in these areas?

  I hope the doctor from the interview will have a longer life &lt;3 he loves what he&apos;s doing and I&apos;m sure he&apos;s a good man. &nbsp;&lt;3
