What you gotta realize about this and people actually miss it, Stan never talks to "Eminem" but his made up version "Slim Shady". He even gets a tattoo that says that name. It's also why he wants to name his daughter Bonnie. Eminem's daughter's real name is Hailie but in the song Bonnie is the name of Slim Shady's daughter. Stan is already that deep in this parasocial relationship that he can't differentiate between reality and fiction and thinks he is writing the fictional character that's real to him.

Karen kinda touched on it, but millions of the younger generation call people stans or them a stan of something and they have no clue it was created from this song and they've never heard it..most anyway.

As a gay man I grew up with Eminem and this song came out when I was only 8 and it showed me that rap can tell a story and I never looked back. I get chills everytime. Monumental song in my life you guys have my favorite reaction to it. 💙

It's perfectly okay to cry. This is more than just a song, this is a heartbreaking tale of self-destruction. It's nuanced and overt. This is my favorite song from Eminem. The performances from Devon Sawa and Dido respectively, are mesmerizing and soul-crushing. This is music history, true artistry. Also, i only noticed Stan's literal ghost in the reflection of the window until recently. That shot is equally haunting and tragic. Masterpiece.

SO many rappers tried to sample Dido's song and she never let anyone until Eminem sent her this and she never asked for a cent. I'm sure Em broke her off with it blowing up as crazy as it did.
