The worst feeling in the world is watching someone you love deteriorating and wasting away piece by piece...You look into their eyes hoping for one memory that'd make her smile and giving me a warm hug...

My sweet mother had early onset dementia. After my Dad died, I took care of my Mom in her home for ten years. Then the last five years at my home she couldn’t be left alone. So, 15 years of my life was extremely difficult but looking back, I would do it all over again. For her.

My mother had dementia. I recognised it and spoke to her doctor because of the bizarre stories shed tell me. Her doctor didnt help her, he told her on me. 5 years later she was diagnosed because she slipped out of her chair I called 911 and never came home. I tried to get her other doctors and even called adult protective services to help her. They said as long as she wasnt diagnosed, she had her autonomy and right to say no. My mother wasnt the best mother, very abusive. When she had dementia she changed into the mother I’d wished I had. I advocated for her during those last 10 months of her life until I had to put her in hospice so she could receive the end of life medications that would ensure her comfort. Mom told me that her mother was coming for her on my last vist with her, I asked her if she wanted to go with her when she came, she said yes. I said when grandma comes you go with her, she said okay. She never forgot who I was. I was able to have converstaions with her and ask her questions that she wouldnt have answered otherwise. I learned so much about my mother in those last days with her. Grandma came for my mother in 5 weeks like she said. Just like our parents didnt know how to care for us, some of use have this lesson in life in how it was when the roles are reverced. I gave her grace. I am now the survivor of my family.

That meltdown after the glass broke. Me this week. My mom has vascular dementia, mid stage. You feel like you aren't yourself anymore watching a parents brain deteriorate. It's hell. My dad has to watch his wife of 45 years stay in a facility while spending the last 10 with her being absolutely abusive on her end. She's always been a stubborn person.

My husband has Alzheimer's, one day he is great the next not so. He is 84, was a fit and healthy serviceman for years, then many physically demanding occupations, some management work. We don't have children so life is pretty lonely at times. I cared for my Mum until she contracted Influenza A and pneumonia. I miss her still so much after 7 yrs and now my husband, the love of my life is slowly losing his abilities from dementia and terrible osteo. We've been married 57 years but it could be yesterday, our love is still strong. I hope a cure or at least good medication is found sooner rather than later. It is a cruel disease robbing the patient and carer of everything they hoped and lived for. Thank you for this film, it brought me to tears.

my aged mom had dementia. I learned to stop reminding her when she would ask with worry - "hows mother and daddy?" I used to remind her they were in heaven.. But I could see the shock in her eyes. So I just started answering "everyone is doing good. daddy's out mowing and mama's hanging out the wash" she would smile...
