  My parents are literally living through the Cape Coral nightmare right now. Paid off their house, thought they were set, and boom—$15k a year just for insurance. It’s absolutely criminal what’s happening to seniors on a fixed income.

  It took 2 years for my brother's condo to be repaired after Ian. He had no choice but to go through condo's insurance and contractors. Then he got hit with new assessment based on the new law after the Surfsude tragedy. My parents bought in '77 and lived out their lives comfortably until 1999 and 2010. But it is so changed now

  I grew up in Boynton Beach and have watched the whole of everything there respond to growth.  Through the 80s and 90s, it grew and slowly and the ecornomy dependied on it.  it also got more expensive.  Florida has become a haven for the ultra wealthy, especially Miami which doesn't surprise me a bit.  Now, the cost of living has gotten so high there that people are moving back out.  That just leaves more room for the ultra wealthy.

  Live in Clearwater which was a real paradise when I move here 9 nine years ago. You haven’t mentioned the in 100 percent increase in property tax.  Between the increased in property taxes and  huge increase in new comers creating grid lock, no parking.  Crime.  It is fast becoming a hell hole!

  Just moved from Dunedin Florida  in Pinellas 2 months ago. So happy 😊 😃 😀 to leave. Lost 90 thousand on my condo. But I  don't care. Renting now. No more hoa. No land lease. No assessments.  No property taxes.  No hurricanes. No sweltering months 😢 😔.  Couldn't find a doctor either.  I'm 70. Don't drive. Live in a great walkable city.  Free busses. Close to train station.  Close to trader Joe's. Have in unit washer and dryer. And 4 seasons. Now my friends will visit ☺️ 🙂 😊.

  I remember Miami Beach in the 1970s. The South Beach was rather shabby and run down and full of elderly Jewish retiring from New York but it was absolutely charming and extremely affordable. That world is long gone now.

  Lovely place, and affordable if you live inland and not near the storm-surge zone. As for doctors, my clinic, hospital and pharmacy are all within a ten-minute drive.

  Well..they priced retired people out...they are going to Georgia..the Carolinas...Alabama...Mississippi...all along the coast lines.....and saving around 40% annually....
