If you are looking to start with drop cloths for a project...@rosehavenfarm2969 just gave me a source for nice dropcloths that are 100%cotton, so they wash well and can be bleached or dyed... here's a link.... https://amzn.to/4kIxmke

Just a memo.... Wash your canvas before you sew. I bought canvas by the yard for slipcovers. I washed it to test for shrinkage, and it shrunk a good 10 inches per yard! It was unbelievable.

I've been buying curtains, sheets, and bedspreads at Goodwill. Got a huge haul of lace curtains, 84 inches long. I've made short curtains for several rooms in my house, and it cost me about twenty dollars for fifteen panels.

Also can look for cheap clothing, coats for notions- buttons, zippers, bits of embroidery, lace. Use pieces to sew together or to sew under Jean holes. Check out yard sales too.

I’m really jealous of the American Thrift stores. In the UK most charity shops, our equivalent of your thrift stores are about the size of a family room.

I'm not a professional sewer but I love to change things around the house for fun and I have always shopped linens at thrifts stores in order to find unusual and inexpensive possibilities. Now I don't live in the States anymore and that's one of the things I miss the most. Although I do some shopping at fb market place.
Thanks for all the tips, I would love to learn more on your upholstery course.

You are amazing. I referred you to a couple of people, the one that you redid yours and your sister's walls of grommeted drape to what I called a "reverse box pleat". I don't think you lost any length either.
My mother never bought drapes, she made them and they fit perfectly of course.
I cannot control the machine and am a guy, so don't have the patience to deal with sewing. I had the tension wrong on one machine and really it was one problem after another. I get so frustrated. I did take the sliding glass door vinyl vertical shade off and sewed 2 big table cloths together, just top and bottom hem doubled to have the weight at the bottom. Then just got the hooks with the sharp point to put into the drape and then hooked the drape to the one where the slat used to be in that same hole.
Drapes are very forgiving with a wavy out of control stitch.
BTW, nobody uses table cloths anymore, so that is another section to look into in the thrift store. Great fabric that stayed in the china cabinet for years.
