Since I was in the military, I’m familiar with the go-bag concept.  I am at a loss however when it comes to transportation in a bonafide emergency.  You can carry important documents with you and a change of clothes and essential supplies in a backpack or duffel bag.  If you have to walk out, you would have many disadvantages since you might be able to cram a couple water bottles and protein bars in the backpack.  We must not forget car and house keys.

I always keep cash for emergencies. That’s what I’ll be trying to tell my son.

I have twenty three gallons of water in my apartment. Seven gallons in my car plus the emergency packets also in my car. I have emergency light bulbs that charge through a regular light socket and I have them hanging in various parts of my apartments. I also have many flashlights, mylar blankets, solar power for my cell phone. Ham radio with all licenses, emergency radio with crank for iPhone. Emergency food pantry with lots of peanut butter, canned foods, dehydrated foods and a manual can opener. I doubt that I’ll ever have $1000 in emergency cash but I do what I can.
