In the late 1960s to 1971 my friends and myself were avid spelunkers and would often on weekends go to 3 caves we liked to explore. A few of us had carbide head lamps on our helmets. I had that and a military type flashlight with extra bulbs and batteries in a pack along with first aid kit , a roll of cord , water ( 2 canteens, 1 to drink & 1 for carbide lamp ) food ( sandwiches, can of beans , apples, some snacks peanut butter & crackers, etc etc ) , some spare clothing and shoes, wooden strike anywhere matches dipped into wax and put in a water proof container. That is a small inventory of our gear . Oh and a watertight container for the carbide chemical. To keep water off it because it will start producing gas which is very dangerous, toxic, & flammable for the lamp . With the gear we take with us we could spend 24 hours down below ground. I took a waterproof bag and wool blanket when we stopped to eat and sleep. One guy had a miners lantern in which he carried for our stops and sleep, because it gets absolutely dark ! No light at all ! It was a brass lantern, not large , but held a candle that lasted 8 hours which was enough light for us ! A little info on spelunking.

My grandpa had a kerosene radio. It burned and the hot air turned a small turbine to power it.

Great video. I started to keep salt in bulk. The cheapest I found is pool salt...about $7 CDN for 50 pounds in most hardware stores.....Beats the 1 pound box they sell for $3 at the grocery store.

Snare wire is a consumable. Critters don't cotton to chokingness. They fight. They twist the wire beyond usefulness.Unpopular question: how much of your preparedness depends upon the universe unfolding the way YOU want it to? Nada.

One very important piece of information. You can鈥檛 learn this from a book or a video. Practice makes perfect. Take the book knowledge and put it to work TODAY. I was raised in this environment. I haven鈥檛 done it in over 40rs. Last year I decided to start doing it again, and it was harder than I remembered it. It is muscle memory.
