  I taught my 20 something grandkids about furniture quality. They love antiquing with me now.  Nothing, even clothes, is quality items like they used to be.

  I have a pair of brass candlesticks from the George III period (1770's).  I paid a pittance for them and they seem to be going up in value big time.

  This Spring, I bought a 3 BR, 1 BA apartment in Italy, partially furnished, for €50k. I then purchased a 6 piece bedroom suite that was in the house that belonged to a daughter for €1,000. I am now watching Italian YT Antique Market videos to get ideas to fill in the gaps. At the right market there are great wood pieces for €280. I can't wait to go back & get shopping!

  I have a solid mohogany and glass ,mirrored back  display case from around 1900 6 ft x 6 ft , it is beautiful and heavy and nobody wants it.

  My father-in-law invested a small fortune and antique furniture. The family took everything they wanted, which was quite a lot, but there were five Sheraton chairs that went to a sale they were purchased which I have the sales slips for $4000 each they were going to go for two dollars apiece when the auctioneer looked at me and said do you want these and I said yes I will take them back as there had been a stock price on them times have definitely changed.

  😮😮😮😮My MIL (88) recently died. I took 7 pieces of nice brown furniture from early 80s. (I had first pick) Two of her grandchildren took all the 100 yr old+ dark antique furniture. Two of her great grandchildren just needed starter furniture and stuff for their apartments. Now I call the realtor, a house cleaner, and a dumpster for the rest.

  I have been an antiques collector all my life, my mother. my grandmother and my great grandmother before me. Not surprisingly, I have some nice stuff, some of it possibly museum-grade.  It is questionable whether my children are much interested, or that my grandchildren will be interested. Perhaps, but it is not a given. I do want to bring one thing to your attention though. If two seriously rich collectors were both to want the same auction item, the 'hammer price' for that lot is likely to exceed the sales price of everything else combined.
