Currently attempting a no hit Sekiro run and just to add to how perfect the combat system is, I'm doing it all beads and memories, no buffs, no boss cheese or glitches, no prosthetics, no combat arts (no mortal draw basically xD) and no Kuro's charm... I honestly can't get enough of the game man. Absolute GOAT for me.

My buddy loved Sekiro. I knew that he did not get to beat the game, so when he passed I made a promise to myself to beat this game to honor my friend. When I finished the game, I broke down. I was so scared because I thought that I could not beat Sekiro. It was so important to me that the pressure was suffocating. That last death blow on Ishiin released my doubts and fears. So know I am going through all the games he loved. Started with Sekiro, got the platinum trophy for Bloodborne, almost done with darks souls 3, and then Elden Ring. I also got to beat Armored Core 6 for him when he was alive. RIP Anthony

One thing like most in Sekiro is the balancing of posture and HP. High HP can recover posture faster, and half HP has low recovery. The fight doesn't end too fast by default, rewarding aggressive players who keep attacking and deflecting non-stop 'as the design intends' while giving players who can't keep up the pace a chance to win through draining the HP in a 'traditional style.'

Oh doing a second playthrough after a year and on that note about eavesdropping. The big toru troop with the bell guarding the entrance to the ashina depths(Senpou temple) you can eavesdrop on the nearby guards who tell you that he is wearing light armor that can be torn off. You can tear this armor off using the spear

Sekiro's ultimate challange comes from the fact that unlike in other soulsgames like DS 3, Lords of the Fallen, Ai limit, Lies of P, Steel Rising (these were ones I played) where if a boss seems to strong, then you can just farm souls/crystals/money/whatever and level up your HP and attack power then come back to the boss when you can tank more damage and deliver stronger attacks....
In Sekiro, this doesn't work. If a boss is constantly killing you, it will keep killing you until you learn their move set and how to dodge/deflect/parry their attacks and counterattack. This is why I love Sekiro over all other soulslike games I played.

As someone who played Lies of P before Sekiro I was glad to see that even though Sekiro is polished to perfection and super smooth, Lies of P still stands as a great variation on the formula. You have to be even more precise with your parries in Lies of P, but you do not have to parry so many hits in a row. The final DLC boss is the only one who reaches the height of the complexity of moveset endgame Sekiro bosses display. Took me a while to get him.

I would really like to see a nine sols video since you’ve heard of it. It has the lies of p rally system where early parries apply recoverable health but there’s also upgrades that make parries do damage or work on more thing. It’s one of my favorite games ever and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

I’m not the biggest Souls fan, but Sekiro was my first step into the genre, played Jedi 1-2, Elden Ring and Lies of P, and my god Lies of P is one of the greatest games I’ve played. I won’t compare it to other souls but compared to Sekiro, I felt right at home and enjoyed every minute. I still have to play the DOC

well, this is actually really helpful because i am currently working on a game with a parry based combat system. so this is really insightful on how i should make it good
first off, there are 3 different weapon types. finesse, brute and ranged. only finesse gets a parry, the other 2 need to rely on dodging and blocking while also having some other benefits to using them over finesse.

then, there is also a sanity mechanic. it's basically like a stagger bar for the player. getting hit lowers your sanity, getting hit with certain damage types greatly lowers it. imperfect parries also drain it a bit while perfect parries restore it.
hitting 0 sanity is basically like a super stagger that lowers a random stat for some time and gives enemies an opening where they can load you up with damage.

and of course, the enemies have a stagger bar. attacking them, parrying them or dodging their attacks lowers the stagger and getting the stagger to 0 allows you to get a critical hit in.

the game is also a roguelite, so there will be plenty of items and passives that add additional effects to the parry.

so, based off what i said i would be very happy to hear about if you think these systems will be enough to make the combat feel good (assuming i am able to make the parrying actually work well).

You mentioning Nine Sols reminded me, how much I love that game. The parry system does everything you say it needs to do. There are several ways to parry, depending on the attack the ennemy is doing, so it is not just blind button smashing. Sometimes it is better to just dodge out of the way of scary attacks. If you don't get a perfect parry, you gain contested health, that you can regain through parrying or attacking, or just by letting time pass. When you parry, you "charge a special attack". Parrying also gives the ennemy contested health, that they only loose, if you hit them with your special attack. You can parry mid air, which is also part of the movement system, that then comes into play during fights. You have a skill tree that allows you to modify your fighting styles. And that is me just talking about the parry system.
I know you talk about having parry fatigue, but if Lies of P didn't trigger it, then Nine Sols shouldn't either.
