  I came across a article that stated if children are not exposed to speech before 5 or 6 their verbal abilities are forever impacted. Children who had been raised feral and then were discovered were unable to develop complex speech. Another article I read that I found interesting stated that children were not blank slates. 400 characteristics were already built into their natures from their ancestors. The gentleman explained a parents role was more of a shepherd, know your child lead them into areas that would nourish them as opposed to trying to manufacture something. That made sense to me.

  I won't debate the morality of this experiment, but I'm unclear on why it's considered a failure. The ape learned to understand vocal prompts and responded to them appropriately, as though she were human; the child learned the ape's language to some degree; they both, no doubt, benefited from socializing with one another. It must have been heartbreaking when they were suddenly separated, as any siblings would be. The whole experiment was pointless and cruel.

  I’m pretty sure that the human child would have eventually caught up on its language skills. But what we’re missing here is the chance for the human to more accurately understand the chimpanzees verbal cues that would’ve been very interesting to let them grow up further to see if there would have been some form of deeper understanding between the species. I understand how this might be controversial and difficult for a parent to agree to do with their own child. But nonetheless, it would’ve been a very interesting experiment.

  The pair seems to have developed their own private type of communication like twins do. <br>The observations seem facile. &quot;Gee! A chimp is developing into a chimp and the child into a child!&quot; Wish they could have continued it.
