It is low-key extreme dedication to actually study a defense. Great video.

These videos are awesome man!! I’m trying to learn more about football and you broke down Mike Macdonald’s defensive schemes in a very easy to understand way!!

Especially love what you do with your editing and graphics!! As a visual learner, it’s extremely helpful to me how you highlight the players on screen in red (to show where they’ve shifted) and keep their original position on screen too!! This really helps me to see what’s going on!! Not very many football channels do this!!

Keep up it man!! Thank you for your amazing work!! You’ve got another subscriber here!

Ive been watching football for a long time, but just the classic watching where the ball goes. Only in the last few seasons have i been trying to watch for the kind of details you’re pointing out here. These breakdowns have really helped and im really thankful.

You’re editing is also really good, switching from arrows to highlighting the players green and red ocassionally keeps it interesting, and there's little time where video isnt playing, but just enough for me to take in what im seeing.

Thanks for this public service.

As many noted his deception and window dressing is very intentional and trains his defense in particular modules. The different fronts his guys line up in (cover 0, odd, even, strong or weak side stack) are there to put pressure on the opposing O-lines protection rules. Who gets to rush and the pressure paths they take is another module to actually take advantage of the matchups and how to get to the QB fast. Mike Mac loves his loopers/stunts but also great use of simulated pressures and creeper type rushes. You can see it work when the O-line can't communicate fast enough when they just end up with grass in front of them. Or holding up a defender who they thought would come through in but the DB was the actual rusher.

Finally coverage is the last module and in Mike Mac's case he ends up with a zone blitz-esque look post snap (3 mid/3 deep) especially with his use of blitzes rising up after week 9. The crazy part is when he really gets a read on how to dissect the pass protection, he forces the opposing OC to attack VERY specific parts of the field. Especially on 3x1 pass looks where the Seahawks staff have coached their deep DBs to correctly sort out the receivers based on their release. Its funny how the Seahawks just get homonogenized like any team sitting on 2 high safeties against the early down run. But MacDonald's post snap tendencies always gives him that additional box defender. It all may see complicated but the operation is really rooted on how well MacDonald and his coaches can attack the offense blocking scheme and rules. Which is also the foundation of Rex Ryan's pressure concepts.

That Lombardi next to Coach Mac at the end of the video tells you that this understands ball.

my favorite thing about his scheme designed rushers getting pressure from the C & D gaps + the pre to post snap looks that safeties give for disguise
