  I put the shifter in N with the footbrake on, then hit the parkingbrake, release the footbrake and then put the shifter in P.

  So, I own a 2017 L494 and I have to confess that even though I don't park on a hill, I have not used the handbrake, believing that when P is selected the handbrake is automatically applied. Now no longer. Hand brake on, then select P.

  No matter where I park, I 1. depress the brake pedal, select Park, Engage the Parking brake and then let go of the brake pedal. If you do it every time, even on a flat surface, you don't have to think. It just happens automatically. Just like when using the indicator!

  The electronic handbrake automatically engages when you shift into Park on a 2019 Range Rover Evoque.

  I am replacing a gear shifter due to water intrusion around the rotary dial.  This occurred after the car was detailed, so under dispute from the shop as to how the water got there.  It is odd water can flow around the shifter and down to the electronics that easily.  How many sunroofs are forgotten in the open position?  The center console water bottle holder is 1” from the shifter.  Presently the towing costs , diagnostic work. And new shifter module will be very close to 3500$.  Bottom line is avoid liquids in the car, be diligent on sunroof closure, discuss car cleaning with your shop.  It give a whole new meaning to don’t drink and drive, including water.

  I park on a hill. I always use the parking break, but usually after putting it in park. Not anymore!

  I alway stop, engage handbrake, release brake pedal to ensure the handbrake is holding and then place into park. I had a previous vehicle where the handbrake was slipping and got stuck with the car trapped in park on a hill.

  My Land Rover expert says the gearbox oil, transfer box and differential oils should be changed every 60,000 miles - which I have had done on my D4 - I also do an oil change every 6-months instead of every year (I drive 10-12,000 miles a year).
