  Years ago, we had a police dog who had to retire early.  She was an amazing German Shepherd who was on alert most of the time.    The only problem we had with her was every time she would hear a police siren, she would go crazy wanting to go with them.

  My in-laws adopted an ex-police German Shepherd/Alsatian. Very intelligent and brave. The only problem was my mother-in-law is phobic about spiders and will scream and jump on the sofa or chairs if she sees one, which the dog learnt from her! My husband can remember his mother and this large ex-police dog jumping on the sofa together, and refusing to get off until somebody removed the spider from the room. One of his fondest childhood memories.

  My husband is a retired law enforcement officer. He used to be a K9 handler. Dan was his German Sheppard. Dan was on a strict diet as all K9 officers are! We would catch Dan opening our refrigerator to get food. We caught Dan drinking Mt Dew on several occasions. He would work the lid off of a 2 liter Mt Dew bottle and turn the bottle up! He did so many other things that were crazy. We miss old Dan.
