Having been trained as a dispensationaist I always feel the need to defend why I am now an amillennialist in the most concise way possible. I say that it comes down to these on three undeniable truths: Christ is reigning now. Satan is defeated now. Forever means forever.

Thank you. Bible teacher Steve Gregg, of the Narrow Path website and radio show, has a wonderful amillennial verse-by-verse interpretation of Zechariah. I recently went through it twice... so good and biblically solid.

If the old Testament prophets could see this current "dispensation of the grace of God" then what was Paul talking about in Romans 16:25 and Ephesians 3:1-12?

Zechariah 14 6 to 7 can be understood through the Passion of Christ The passage speaks about a unique day known only to the LORD when there is no ordinary light and darkness comes upon the day yet at evening time there will be light This is striking when read alongside the crucifixion narratives

Matthew 27 45 says that from the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness covered the land Mark 15 33 says the same and Luke 23 44 to 45 says there was darkness over the whole land and the sun's light failed The crucifixion therefore gives us a concrete New Testament manifestation of the Day of the LORD imagery

The movement is darkness death and then light Christ enters darkness and dies but on the third day He rises from the dead The darkness is not the final word The light of resurrection follows the death of the Messiah

Zechariah says that this is a unique day known to the LORD John repeatedly speaks about Jesus' appointed hour Jesus says His hour had not yet come and then says the hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified John 12 23 The Passion therefore occurs according to the divine purpose and not by accident

John also presents Jesus as the light of the world John 8 12 and the crucifixion itself as the hour of His glorification The cross therefore appears to be darkness and defeat but it becomes the place of victory and glory

This should not be reduced to saying that Zechariah 14 7 is simply a prediction of the exact day of the crucifixion The stronger argument is that the Passion is a Christological realization of the Day of the LORD pattern while the final consummation remains future

The pattern is unique Day darkness at the crucifixion death of the Messiah evening and then resurrection light The cross is followed by resurrection and the final Day of the LORD will bring the complete defeat of every enemy

So Zechariah 14 6 to 7 fits beautifully into the New Testament pattern The Day of the LORD is revealed through Christ The darkness of the Passion reveals judgment and death The resurrection reveals light and victory and the final coming of Christ will bring the complete consummation of the prophetic Day

First establish the biblical symbolism: mountains can represent kingdoms and nations. Jeremiah calls Babylon a “destroying mountain” (Jer. 51:25), while Daniel uses mountain imagery for kingdoms and ultimately God's kingdom (Dan. 2). Therefore, Zechariah's Mount of Olives can carry theological significance beyond its physical geography. When the LORD comes, the mountain is “split,” and a valley is opened. Now read this through Jesus' own words: “I have not come to bring peace, but division” (Luke 12:51). The arrival of the Messiah necessarily divides people according to their response to Him. The Gospels show this messianic division occurring within Israel: some confess Jesus as Messiah, while others reject Him and demand His crucifixion. Then Matthew 27:51 gives an extraordinary Passion parallel: at Jesus' death, “the earth shook, and the rocks were split,” and the temple veil was torn from top to bottom. Thus Zechariah's splitting imagery can be read typologically through the Passion: the Messiah arrives, Israel is confronted with His identity, division occurs, creation itself is shaken, the rocks are split, and the barrier of the temple is torn open. The “valley” can therefore signify the way of deliverance opened through Christ. Acts then shows the Gospel going out from Jerusalem amid both Jewish rejection and Jewish belief, while Paul explains Israel's divided response in Romans 9–11. The point is not that Zechariah 14 simply predicts a future geological event; the New Testament gives us a Christological interpretation in which the coming of the LORD in Christ produces judgment, division, salvation, and ultimately victory.

grammatical historical context is good method but the OT and NT authors read their scriptures typological thru allusions, types and anti types, etc.(midrash jewish hermenutic) Biblical theology is the best method here. To say NT authors interpret prophecies of the OT then asked this: Why Matthew 2:15 alludes to hosea 11:1? If hosea 11:1 is a prophecy then why grammatical tense of hosea 11:1 presented in past tense? So its not prophetic. In addition to reading the text in its immediate context we need to read the historical correspondence in the OT - canonical context of the word "Israel"

After about seven minutes of introduction and finding out that he likes coffee and singing, I decided I’ll get my information somewhere else. This needed editing.

Dispensational eschatology is an outrageous lie. Zachariah 14 is fulfilled. It is the New Covenant.
