End of the day my home is my happiness, I'm not planning to sell it so if it's the way I want it to me it's money well spent.

One of the best changes we made in our kitchen was to install slide out shelves in all of the base cabinets. We loved the convenience factor of being able to reach whatever we needed in the back with ease.

Nothing wrong with doing these upgrades. The issue is expecting other people to pay you back for them.

JUST make it the way you like it and FORGET about resale. You know that as soon as someone else moves in, they will tear things out and redo it to THEIR liking!

This is high end homes. Most people won’t have this problem. I never thought about the high tech stuff. It’s so true and most people don’t think about it until they can’t get into the App because it’s connected to someone else.

Here's the real honest truth about home renovation. It is low on the financial totem pole of today's average american family. It is often trumped by - mortgage, rent, food, clothing, credit card payments, junior's college fund, retirement fund contributions, insurance payments, Hawaii vacation, car stuff, home repairs, etc. Even when a financial windfall happens, whether it's tax refund or inheritance, it most probably goes throught that totem pole. We buy a house, we figure out a way to live with its imperfections, we muddle on with life. No one's gonna question why your kitchen cabinets do not reach the ceiling. The only time renovation happens is probably when it's time to sell. If done right, that investment will quickly go back to their pockets. You really cannot say "It's community college for you, bud. Your mom wants a new kitchen."

People these days design or remodel their kitchen based on the struggles they experience with the original traditional kitchen when they purchased the house. I truly understand how the real estate market works for clients, but in reality everyone has different tastes and different uses in the kitchen based on a daily use they have experienced. Interior Design is a constant evolving. Materials and finishes as well. But unfortunately not everyone is savvy in this field. Iam an interior designer my self and always looking to learn new trends in the design housing market and I'm still constantly battling with clients when I try to explain to them practical vs I want. 2 different things that's unfortunately most humans don't comprehend. Nevertheless, this information is valuable and I really appreciate you taking the time to explain these details before someone pulls the trigger to remodel their kitchen. You don't know the outcomes until you go through it!

Who cares if future buyers don't like colored cabinets or darker cabinets.
You remodel your kitchen to YOUR tastes because YOU live there.

And most people like two tone kitchens, like blue/green lowers and white uppers.

What about hardwood floors? Do buyers think of it as a great addition or do they think of it as added maintenance? Does it really up the value of the home, or do buyers avoid it?

White subway tiles are not classic, they’re lazy, cheap and boring. They belong in a far away bathroom no one or the kids use.
