  In Japanese mythology, a determined koi fish that successfully swims upstream and leaps over Dragon Gate waterfall on the Yellow River is transformed into a powerful dragon.<br><br>Maybe Godwyn wanted to transform into a dragon before the assassins killed him.

  I think Godwyn tried to evolve into a dragon/mermaid. When you look at the Draconic Sentinel there is a dragon on top of the helm whose tail is reminiscent of Godwyn&apos;s fishtail.

  According to legend, eating mermaid (or in this case merman) flesh grants immortality in Japanese folklore. It could tie in with the fact that Godwyn can&apos;t properly die, and his corpse keeps on living essentially, so he&apos;s transforming into a literal embodiment of immortality, but with a decaying motif. His corpse continuing to grow and transform can be seen a corruption of his immortality, which has become more of a curse than a blessing.<br>This could all be a reference to Yaobikuni, an &nbsp;nun who accidentally becomes immortal after eating the flesh of a mermaid (ningyo). She lives for 800 years before going into a cave in Wakasa to pray, where she turns into stone.

  Godwyn definitely was <b>not</b> a mermaid before his half-death. He is Marika&apos;s one &quot;perfect&quot; child she bore, hence why he was chosen at all.

  Dude I never really even understood what the hell Godwyn looked like until this video. I thought he was just growing out of a tree with parts that looked like eyes or a face. I didn’t realize the weird face WAS a malformed version of his face and that his body was RIGHT THERE in front of me.

  If Godwyn was a mermaid then it would have been mentioned. Every single demigod&apos;s unique quirk is spoken about in great detail, Godwyn&apos;s animal trait would have been the same if he always had it.

In the Golden Order these things are afflictions because the culture dictates top down what to expect from royal lineage and what that means about people. However, in the age of the crucible, these same kinds of natural variations are celebrated and, rather than being tragic, are the stuff of heroes.
