I have to say, knowing that machine was live and you waving your hands around really gave me the heebyjeebies

This has opened my eyes today on just how dangerous a simple error like this can be. That is absolutely crazy.

I applaud you Sir, the best video i have ever seen on YouTube. I am an old SPARKY started out in 1961. As put i applaud you. A very simple cock up, leading to the death of somebody. I take my hat off to you.

Ex-firefighter here. Some quick advice, we were drilled to touch everything with the BACK of your hand when searching houses etc, which I still do to this day, the volts will throw your hand away. I am 67.

I've seen live and neutral reversed (in new builds too) but never seen live and earth swapped. I find it difficult to understand how anyone could do that. The very orientation of the terminals makes it fairly obvious that the earth is quite different, and usually is visibly directly mounted to bare metal.

Not a real electrician anymore, but I am a schooled electronics engineer, I bought a house 2017, and found TWO places of charred wiring in my house. Both I'm sure a "professional" did.

As a plumber and a new entrant to electrician course, it changed my perspective to the industry, I’m ever grateful for the timing and the great content ❤

While knowing that you were fully aware of your surroundings and the state of the circuit, watching it still caused anxiety on my part. Have to say that I felt more suspense watching this video than watching any recent action movie 😂.
I do think not enough people are exposed to and understand the risks of improper electrical wiring.
Great content, thanks!

I was visiting a colleague’s home when his family complained of a sense of tingling in their hands when touching pans on their stove. It turned out someone had stripped the outer insulation from the cable supplying the stovetop because the wall conduit was too small to accept it otherwise. The stovetop's cable retaining clamp had pinched the live and earth cores so tightly that the insulation had been crushed to the point they started arcing together. The earth core had burned through completely but not before it welded itself to the live core at the stovetop end, making the whole stove 100% (UK 240v) live. They were so lucky no one died as an earthed SS sink unit was less than a metre away from the stove. I shuddered to think of the consequence of someone grabbing for a boiling over pan whilst touching the sink unit with wet hands. My colleague seemed unconcerned until I connected my test lamp between his sink and stovetop and it lit up brightly. Apparently it had been like that for months!
