Love this video, my favorite! His balloon under his Fathers and Mothers umbrellas, parents. Then under the nuns umbrella, religion. Then policemen on horses, law and order. Then his umbrella going to the little girl and hers doing the same, relationships. Then the balloons (our souls) flying away losing our childhood. Then the end, all of the balloons taking him away. Life!

This song was the inspiration for ridiculous amounts of songs to come over the next 20 years.
Stiff Kittens, Warsaw, Joy Division, New order....whatever.....the core remains the same and the core drips talent. Thank you, Sumner, Hook, Morris, and Curtis...just...thank you x

Ceremony (released as a New Order song) - "Ceremony" was one of the last Joy Division songs to be composed, with lyrics written by Ian Curtis.... Merci Ian - Je t'adore

I have so much love for this song... always felt like the guitar itself was another type of lyric to me, if that even makes sense like a strong emotion.

Almost started crying remembering The Red Balloon. Such a great memory for a kid growing up in the 70's

This was originally a Joy Division song but Ian killed himself and then New Order remade it. Love Joy Division and New Order so much. My favorite music is the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, but my favorite songs are Joy Division and New Order. I love them so much!

I am writing this today, 2026. A man in his 40s recommended this to me and it is absolutely a wonderful song. Though I haven't lived in this era, I still feel something that this song intends to feel. I cannot describe it but it just feels human and makes me feel alive–A feeling that I've longed for.

Thank you so much for this and I also find great things reading heartfelt comments and tells me that its really been years. 💓

Can any fan imagine how great, relevant and all-time joy division would have been had ian decided to live... just look at how their song writing abilities increased in early 1980.. i.e. the last 2 singles.. atmosphere & love will tear us apart.. then their next single would have been this...
