  The film succeeded in being entertaining, but it did not succeed in being a romantic comedy. These two characters were not written as people who liked each other, and that seems to be the problem with a lot of rom-coms lately. Writers forget that the characters are supposed to like each other (eventually) and fall in love, not just lust after each other.

  Jono gets snaps from me! HUGE pet peeve of mine is when boys (bc a real man would NEVER) belittle women around their guy friends bc they think it makes them cool. I&apos;ve heard ONE story from a friend about a someone who stood up to his bro for disrespecting his girlfriend. No she didn&apos;t end up leaving the guy for his friend. Surprisingly, by his friend letting him know he didn&apos;t think it was cool the boyfriend stopped acting like a meathead!

  The problem with most romcoms is that they don&apos;t like to explore the actual difficulties of falling in love and being in a relationship. They go from &quot;we hate each other/are strangers&quot; to &quot;I&apos;ll die for you&quot; in like, ten minutes. I would love for a enemies to lovers romcom that actually explored the reasons why they hated each other, have both characters grow and heal by shedding that hate, then start to notice the great things about the other person to slowly, really take an interest in them as people.

  I always wondered why, whenever a rom com lead is a law or medical student, they nearly always decide to drop out, usually in favour of pursuing a more creative profession, such as a pastry chef, writer or artist.

  Idc if I get hate, this movie infuriated me as a romantic comedy enthusiast. They’re good actors and ITS WASTED ON AN AWFUL PLOT. The writing was weak, the directing was weak, and it was promoted as a romcom revival??? With the wrench displayed on the bookcase detail ? Ffs someone get Hugh Grant out of his BDSM dungeon at this point.
