"That every form that miscarries in the trenches- that every outline, metaphor, or prayer crushed under steel -The Eternal, loses a round.

Fonscious that I cannot stand aloof from my time, I have decided to be an integral part of it. This is why I esteem the individual, only because he strikes me as ridiculous and humiliated.

Knowing that there are no victorious causes, I have a liking for lost causes. They require an uncontaminated soul. Equal to its defeat, as to its (temporary) victories.

For anyone who feels bound up with this world's fate, the clash of civilizations has something agonizing about it. I have made that anguish mine, at the same time that I wanted to join in. Between history, and The Eternal, I've chosen history because I like certainties. Of it, at least, I am certain."

I'm at best vaguely familiar with all of these other theories (aside from one or two), so all I can understand, which is probably wrong, is that Camus wants to live in the world as it exists to him, devoid of transcendent and divine explanations, but to exist and embrace happily a world without any real inherent meaning. Either way, the pacing and tone is superb, here. Top-shelf work.

Superb vocal that now in my 72nd year the virtual voice is easy to tell apart from the real, this concept is exponentially becoming increasingly difficult for those born post 1990....
