  Vlad Țepeș, how its written in romanian is pronounced Vlad Tzepesh. Ț is pronounced like tz said together really fast (or as the zz in pizza), and ș is how you pronounce sh in english, as in shape for example.

  I work alongside a Romanian woman and he&apos;s a big hero there. She said a lot of stuff written about him was sensationalised after his death. Still, it makes for a smashing story!

  One minor correction, he didn&apos;t burn just the homeless that day, there was also all the local banditry and thieves in that barn <br>I&apos;m romanian, and around here, many of us miss him dearly <br>He was also completely against his boyars (nobles), many times put them into the stake for disloyalty <br>One similar event with the barn was a great banquet he gave for his nobles and their wives. In the same manner he closed the doors, but this time, he chose not to kill, but to march them around 250 km to a small mountain where he made them work on his new fortress (Poienari castle)<br>The elderly ones died on the journey there, the others mostly worked to death, the ruins of these fortifications still stand, and it was the actual residence <br>So Vlad was by no means a friend of nobles and against the low class, on the contrary, a fact that cost him later when he was abandoned and betrayed by these nobles

  I’ve climbed those 1480 steps to Poenari Castle. It’s a great climb and a fantastic view from the top. <br><br>You can see why that part of Romania was so easily defended.
