Why Mass Effect's Perfect Villain Was The Illusive Man

The fact that the monolith Jack Harper interacted with had a blue hue characteristic of Reaper tech (unlike the Prothean monoliths that had a green hue) means that the Reapers (maybe through Soverign?) were working on both him and Saren from way back then, which is almost scary. I also want to point out how ironic it looks that the Illusive Man was "enhancing" his people with Reaper tech, the same thing that devolved Ben in front of him, showing how fine the hold of the Reapers probably was on him

In my opinion, Saren Arterius and Jack Harper/The Illusive Man were great villains for Shepard because they challenged Shepard's beliefs (but not on their free will). And in the end of the final comic book of Mass Effect Evolution, after Jack/Illusive Man made his manifesto, he theorized that whoever created the monoliths that changed him and Ben have the intention of testing humanity in some shape or form.

Shepard kept his/her friends close but her enemies closer in Cerberus. One of those enemies was the Illusive Man. And even under the Cerberus banner, the tiger/tigress never changed his/her stripes.

There is some solace Jack can take in retrospect. Despite him being indoctrinated for so long, and being used as a pawn in their scheme, he did directly save humanity- by giving them Shepard back.

13:02 TIM didn't believe Shepard was betraying him (if you're going Paragon), because he knew YOU were the key he needed to make sure the reapers didn't win. He knew what he was doing when he resurrected him, no matter the cost. He didn't want Shepard to just blindly follow his command, he wanted him to be the person he was meant to be, a hero for humanity... A hero for the entire galaxy. There's no betrayal when there is no allegiance and that was established before you got to play.

The Illusive Man is the perfect villain to end off the original trilogy with. He's the embodiment of the Worst humanity has to offer, contrasted against what Shepard, with remarkably less resources and money, are able to do.

Tim would've been a far better character if the devs had handled his storyline better. Like in ME 2 when he send you into the Collector's trap, or how he didn't put any bomb or control device into Shepard, for someone who think control is everything, this makes no sense!

Most likely, midway the development of ME2 the dev realized that the way they wrote TIM wasn't a villain and so they rushed that twist to make him appear evil.

Next time I play the ME trilogy, I'm officially going to name myself Ben so that Jack Harper can have his best girl and himself both be killed by Ben.
