I loved the focus on Guertena's art in your analisys is something you don't see often in these kind of videos despite it being, in a way, the setting

I've always genuinely loved all of the artworks in Ib, so it's really nice seeing someone actually talk about them.

This came across my feed and when I realized this is about analysing the creations in the game itself- dude I'm not gonna lie I'm actually tearing up. Something about you reviewing the artworks heals me. I love art history and art analysis, I love IB, I'm gonna enjoy this video wkdnsndndn

Another thing I love about this game is how easy it is to analyze Guertena's art as if he were a real person and as if his works are real. The Classical style of the "Melancholy" sculpture is actually only a small collection of pixels, offering only one 2D angle of something we would normally be able to get close to and walk around, but we can easily imagine what it would look like in a real gallery. The descriptions of each piece that we can see, and the wide breadth of styles and movements tells us so much about a character we never actually see in-game. Maybe he was Basque or Brazilian or Swiss, given his name. How old was he when he died, and when in time does the game take place? I like the ambiguity, but the mental figure of this man is still strong.

Your points about different abstract expressionism are great, especially considering the surreal nature of the game, and I see so much of the subject matter in the catalogue of works by Mondrian or Rothko or Malevich. It's not surprising to me that Northern and Eastern Europe gravitated towards these philosophically/spiritually minimalist (or "purist") movements in the early 20th century. Maybe it really is "you had to be there". One could argue the longevity of art and the Death of the Author, but there is also a strange immortality in that same sentiment, and that certainly looms large in "Ib" with Weiss Guertena.

I'd love more content about art movements and artist philosophy. While I'm glad you didn't go into every ending or alternate choice, I was reminded of how much I love the depth of this game, even without a ton of "lore". I actually find it pretty refreshing that there doesn't need to be a whole Google Doc of Ib lore for us to suspend our disbelief and get immersed in this Alice in Wonderland kind of story, and they didn't choose to make it all a dream or whatever.

As someone who studied the history of art I genuinely love your perspective on many of these art pieces! I might sound like a lot of ppl in the comments but you should definitely try and explore the world of art history!

dude, i just love everything about your style of analysis. you bring so much meaning into games and films you cover. youre officially my new comfort ytber <3
i'd love to see you do a video on cry of fear! the story is not exactly "profound" in a symbolic way but one thing that it does well is illness and psychology, in my opinion at least!

I think it’d be really interesting to analyze the paintings in Signalis. A lot of them tie directly into the game’s themes and lore, and there’s a surprising amount of symbolism and foreshadowing hidden in them

I remember the animations and art, almost like a complete anime, from different authors about this game. Ib is a charming game and delves on heavy topics with a surface level. It looks towards art as a manifestation of the soul and what art is to the soul.

I don't think this game is not that deep. But the public gave it depth. Us the audience saw potential and filled the gap with out imagination. We look into Guertena and think: Picasso, tortured genius. or Goya, from rebellion to depression and tragedy. Art is like that. And that's what I like and respect from Ib.

Oh hey, I also watched Cry play this back in the day! (And I'm still sad about how that whole situation turned out...) I don't have anything to add that wasn't already said in other comments, so let me just add another thank you for a great video!

Awesome art analysis! I was kinda worried about analysing this game, since when I replayed it few years ago I noticed how incredibly story light it is. I was kind of surprised how little relevant was the artist, despite the characters being stuck in his world.
