  great video but I thinkk there's one thing you're missing. She wasnt just angry that he never returned, she's angry mainly because he left in the first place while she had to fend for herself and raise coco alone. the reveal may have excused him not coming back but not the fact he left to begin with

  I watched the woman, and I understood perfectly how she felt betrayed. &nbsp;Yes, she was a bit hard on her husband, from her point of view he chose fame over family. &nbsp;Unfortunately, his murder only made her resolve not to forgive his leaving even harder. &nbsp;I don&apos;t remember her as a hero, I remember her as a hurt woman who finally softened, if for no other reason, than to save her great, great grandchild. &nbsp;I don&apos;t know how to time stamp, but I stopped to comment at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SetYVXuszT8&amp;t=116">1:56</a> into the video.

  I alwys viewed the &quot;so what&quot; as pointing out that Hector still abandoned them. Yes, he is not to blame for getting murdered, but that wouldn&apos;t have happened if he hadn&apos;t left them in the first place. That doesn&apos;t change the fact that Imelda still had to raise her daughter without a father.

  I didn&apos;t really see Imelda as a hero, and didn&apos;t get the vibe that she was meant to be portrayed as correct or perfect. The family displayed toxicity in how things were handled (we can assume across multiple generations). It&apos;s a lot like real life since people aren&apos;t perfect and sometimes generational trauma carries on and colors people&apos;s attitudes and views.<br><br>I wonder if there is implied backstory to what occurred before Hector left. Perhaps Imelda was always against it, and he went anyway, which would deepen the wound and feelings of abandonment since that &quot;wrong&quot; was entirely his decision (it certainly sucks for a parent to leave the family for an extended time, forcing the other parent to care for the household and young child on their own).<br><br>Mix that in with a woman who is stubborn and accustomed to being in charge, and I can see how her character guided her actions. <br><br>Old habits die hard, and Imelda had spent decades marinating in her anger towards Hector and the music that took him away from her (even if it wasn&apos;t meant to be permanent). So she wasn&apos;t likely to immediately soften at the truth. She may have viewed it as &quot;well if he hadn&apos;t left, none of this would have happened, and we could have lived our lives together,&quot; even though he did not plan on getting murdered. It&apos;s screwed up, but it goes back to that trauma part of the situation.

  Imelda brainwashed her granddaughter to hate her grandfather. &nbsp;I don&apos;t think she trusted Coco to not put up his photo. &nbsp;Then her granddaughter bullied Coco about it

  I always found it odd that when Hector died, the authorities apparently didn&apos;t reach out to the family to let them of his death, which would&apos;ve proved that he didn&apos;t just run off. Or that De le Cruz, Hector&apos;s music partner, became famous while Hector just vanished. Yes, Imelda banned music, but that doesn&apos;t mean that she or her family lived in total isolation; their home and business was in a town, where news, television and radio existed. Given De le Cruz&apos;s level of fame, it would&apos;ve gotten the townspeople to talk and Imelda and her family would&apos;ve heard about it, even accidentally. Then again, I&apos;m probably just nitpicking.

  i mean, this is pretty much how I read the movie. <br> Imelda sharing the blame was part of the theme I thought.<br>It&apos;s family trauma, it&apos;s messy and muddled. Well written I think.

  One interesting detail to note is that even in the picture taken before Hector left, the whole family together, Imelda looks upset, so it makes me wonder if she had grievances with Hector even before he left. Hector had his guitar in that same image, and in the intro, it implied that she immediately gave up on Hector the moment he left. So the seeds for Imelda&apos;s grudge could have been planted in their relationship even before Hector left. Furthermore the family law wasn&apos;t just about forgetting Hector, it specifically forbade anyone from producing or enjoying music, so clearly Imelda identified music as the very catalyst for her grievance.<br>With all this information, I think Imelda began her grudge when Hector took on music, before he even left them.
