I don't think Deepnest would have worked in Silksong either--this time <b>you</b> are the spider.

The unnerving horror of Deepnest vs the endless wrath and hate that produces Bilewater

I think the reason Silksong doesn’t have a Deepnest equivalent is not just that team cherry doesn’t want to repeat the gimmick, it’s also because lore wise it wouldn’t make sense for Hornet to struggle in a place that’s like Deepnest. It’s where she was born and raised, she would be more comfortable in a similar place

I think the cheese strat could also be a metaphor. In your desperation to escape the never-ending cycle of torture, you embraced the maggot infested swamp - sought protection in it and learned new hit-and-run tactics using it. <br>In their desperation to escape the never-ending cycle of torture, they've embraced the maggot infested swamp - sought protection in it and learned new hit-and-run tactics using it.

I am of the firm opinion that any great and well-designed world needs Places That Suck. Hollow Knight would be a worse game without Deepnest, Dark Souls would be a worse game without Blighttown, and Silksong would be a worse game without Bilewater. The fact that the only thing of import locked behind beating Grol is the Soul needed to trigger Act 3 is key, IMO. In order to truly confront the evils at the center of Pharloom, you have to experience the greatest injustices of the Citadel first-hand. There is no reason to ever set foot in that place otherwise. Bilewater exists to be hated, and that hatred must be conquered and put to rest if the kingdom is ever going to heal.

whiteward really does the horror and dread that deepnest does

another thing to note is that bilewater was likely the source of the water running through verdania, so once it got polluted verdania ceased to survive<br>I also find it kinda funny that the best way to deal with the maggot infestation of bilewater is to get infested yourself via lifeblood OD

My favorite thing in Bilewater is the room with the hidden bench and all the strung up pilgrims, because it has a single lore tablet in it that basically just reads:<br>"Their shells are ours, their souls are ours, our hate will never end"<br>It summarizes the absolute state of this place so well. The Stilltkin exclusively survived and continue to exist on pure spite. Their hatred for the Citadel has given them the strength to adapt and perservere in the worst situation. Look at Crust King Kahn, Kamelita's ant tribe and even the Citadel and its Conductors. ALL have fallen. Bilewater, in its muck and maggots and filth and anger still persists. They still take down any and all intruders and rage against the world. That's the strength of this vile place and I respect it.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScAxpouYA_c&t=490">8:10</a> fun fact, accoding to Trobbio's VA, Team Cherry had to tone down bosses like Sister Splinter and Groal after beta testers found them too hard. Yes, the current Groal fight is the EASY version of the boss.

To me, the best way to describe the difference between Deepnest and Bilewater is:<br><br>Deepnest wants to eat you.<br><br>Bilewater hates you.... passionately.

In bilewater, particularly with your interactions with Shakra, you're reminded that it is the citadel's doing. Like most people I got frustrated at the area, but the added context of why bilewater is the way it is directed some of that frustration to the citadel. If bilewater was a lovely, peacefull and welcoming area, team cherry wouldnt be able to tell t he same story about the citadel casting its shadow on the rest of pharloom
