  DUI charges in the US are laughable. For such a common offense that kills tens of thousands each year, the US is way too lenient on drunk drivers. One of my best friends almost lost his uncle to a drunk driver (the uncle sustain life-altering injuries). The guy was a repeat offender and lucked out that his previous fender benders didn't involve other people. You can call China draconian, but at least China puts it's foot down on DUI. License revocations in China are often permanent.

  I come from a culture where it&apos;s considered a good idea to get kids used to alcohol around the age of 12, under parental supervision. Don&apos;t let them get drunk, just let them have a taste when others are drinking, this is thought to reduce binge drinking once they reach 18 and can buy their own alcohol. Kids often crave what&apos;s forbidden and just making it not forbidden to drink defuses this desire. I&apos;m a Ukrainian of Bulgarian descent but i&apos;ve heard this approach is fairly common in many wine-making places from France to Georgia, and most places don&apos;t really have any laws prohibiting kids from drinking, only that they can&apos;t buy their own alcohol.<br><br>You can also drink beer on the street in Europe just fine, and get alcohol delivered by courier or mail. I&apos;m thinking USA might have an unhealthy relationship with many things, like alcohol, nudity, sex, guns...

  I went to watch a football game once in China. During half time I went with a friend to smoke a cigarette. I thought I had to go outside but walking into the stadium everyone was smoking. Eventually three police officers came walking by with a megaphone repeating the sentence : &quot;you&apos;re not allowed to smoke here. You can get a fine&quot;. Literally no one gave a shit. The smokers kept on smoking and the police just walked by without even looking at them.

  To be fair, China has just recently gotten out of extreme poverty and labour intensive manufacturing economy and slowly but surely moving towards advanced manufacturing and innovation based economy... i bet many who faced starvation or malnutrition in China during and immediate after chairman mao&apos;s death are still alive, as time goes on and as new generation of leaders start rising up we will see changes happening.... even at present CPC releases policies every now and then or scraping failed ones etc, it will take ar least a few generations

  Drunk driving is actually regularly checked everywhere. In Changsha, where I used to live, there will always be dozens of checkpoints across the city checking for drunk driving from the most crowded and the least crowded areas.
