Let’s explore the depths of it in the video. Anakin’s eyes widen as the truth finally locks into place, not as a suspicion but as something undeniable and immediate. There is no time to think, no space to weigh consequences, because instinct takes over before doubt can catch up. He moves, intercepting the lightning and forcing it back toward its source, the energy bending under his will even as it threatens to overwhelm him. Sidious does not relent, pouring everything he has into the attack, convinced that raw power will carry him through as it always has before. Instead, that same power folds inward, building on itself, turning from weapon into backlash until it begins to consume him outright. The damage is not sudden, but cumulative, escalating faster than he can endure it. Flesh that had already been weakened gives way first, then bone, then anything that could still be called human. Even then, Sidious refuses to disengage, driven by the belief that if he simply pushes harder, he will win. That belief is what kills him, locking him into a fight he can no longer survive until there is nothing left to fight with. By the time the lightning fades, no Sith Lord is standing at the center of it, only the remains of something that once held the Republic in its grip. Anakin drops to one knee, breath uneven, the weight of what he has done crashing into him all at once. The Chancellor is dead, and not just dead, but killed by his hand, by a choice he cannot undo. For a moment, the shock threatens to swallow everything else, blurring the edges of the room and the reality around him. Then a groan cuts through it, sharp with pain and very much alive. Mace Windu is still breathing. Anakin scrambles toward him, words catching as he tries to speak, unsure whether to explain or apologize first. Anakin: Master, I— I can get you to the medbay. The droids can— Mace looks up, fury arriving before anything else, his voice exploding out of him. Mace: Dank ferrik! Are you out of your kriffing mind?! The force of it stops Anakin cold. Mace pushes himself upright, eyes locked onto him with a mixture of pain, anger, and disbelief that hasn’t even begun to settle. Mace: Do I look like I give a shab about my hand? I want to know why you thought it was a good idea to defend a kriffing Sith Lord. Anakin hesitates, but there is no point holding anything back now. Anakin: You were going to execute him. You said it yourself. Mace exhales sharply, shaking his head as if trying to reset the situation into something he can actually process. Mace: Sithspit. I heard you say you needed him, so tell me—why do you need a Sith Lord, Skywalker? Because from where I’m standing, you just risked everything for a man who was about to destroy the Republic. That is what breaks it open. Everything Anakin has been holding back spills out in a rush—the marriage, the nightmares, the fear that has been driving him for longer than he wants to admit. He expects anger, condemnation, and being cast out the moment the words are finished. Instead, something in Mace shifts, not softening exactly, but recalibrating as the pieces fall into place. Mace studies him for a long moment before speaking again, his tone lower now, more controlled but no less direct. Mace: So that’s what this is about. We were wondering how long it would take you to admit it. Anakin blinks, thrown completely off balance. Anakin: You knew? All this time? Mace lets out a short, humorless breath, glancing away for a second before looking back. Mace: Of course, we knew. You and the senator were about as subtle as a thermal detonator, and frankly, half the Council stopped pretending otherwise months ago. Anakin frowns, confusion cutting through the shock. Anakin: Then why didn’t you say anything? Why not confront me? Mace’s expression tightens slightly, but not with anger—something more measured. Mace: Because your attachment wasn’t a problem… until it became one. We all have attachments. I’m attached to the Republic. Master Fisto and Aalya Secura were seeing each other for months, and only broke it off because of the war. Master Mundi has a wife and kids for force's sake. #starwars #starwarswhatif #whatif
