I love the compact comics and it got me back into comics along with the DC absolute universe. The colors being taken away doesn’t really bother me as much and I love the $10 price.

These DC Compact comics have been a blessing in disguise to me. This has quickly become my favorite comic format.

I think it's a genuinely genius move by DC to introduce this format. It got me to read some books I hadn't had the chance to read before. The other publishers are rightfully following suit. However, it's not without flaws. I don't like that each release is a one and done (i.e. we're only getting Long Halloween, and we won't be getting Dark Victory). I wish they'd release continuations of volumes. IDW is releasing Sonic in compact format in various volumes that continue the story. Most of the releases are definitely highly acclaimed and will get people into reading more comics, they're not always suitable for a compact comic. I haven't read Arkham Asylum in this format but I hear that that's one of the harder books to read in compact form.

Exactly compacts are great and an interesting thing about compacts for me is that if there's an art style I don't particularly like but the story itself is good it's a better purchase than having a trade paperback that shows the art better cause I don't want it for the art hut the story. Like it being small and not glossy helps minimize the art while still seeing what's happening and understanding it with more focus on dialogue. Idk like I'm picky on art styles so that's a perk it has for me. The only bad thing about compacts is how they seem to get thinner and thinner with next year's halfway lineup being the thinnest yet averaging at 160 pages when 300 to 250 pages was the norm before. It's just disappointing because compacts shouldn't be treated as if they're trade paperbacks when part of the appeal is the bigger content amount it has so why print short runs or not add more than one run instead to beef it up back to how it usually was

I absolutely love the compact format, I’m a bog time manga collector and just got into reading dc comics and the fact that these compact editions fit in so well to display with my manga is so perfect. Also I wasn’t really a big marvel fan anyways but if they had marvel versions of these I’d be down to try some

We have the same edition here in italy both from Marvel and Dc (it calls Pocket and the price are almost the same, like 9.99€ or 11.99€). This format here in Italy saved comic sales. Even though trades/collections are cheaper over there, we get fewer discounts by law, which makes reading anything other than single issues super pricey.

For example: what comes out as a TP in the US gets released here in the exact same size but as a hardcover, averaging around €21 to €25 for each. Following regular ongoing series this way becomes incredibly expensive. To fix this, Panini Comics (the Marvel and DC licensee here) came up with a solution to help people catch up on major past runs, like John Byrne’s Fantastic Four, by collecting them in this pocket format, calling it the 'Master Series'. I Hope they will do with some new series too.

The paper you mentioned is pretty much the same one we have, and I totally agree that it really helps with reading, especially before bed. I absolutely love it!

I haven’t been reading comics consistently for decades but this compact comics got me back. Now I look for deals for the OG TPB and if the cost difference is like $2 or $3 I’ll get it. That’s how I got Kingdom Come TPB FOR CHEAP.
