Violet's tale put me in a six month slump. Her life was mine, to an extent. From my mother and father, to meeting a boy like Stevie. I broke my silence, and it was the best thing I've ever done.

THIS is why women's voices are so important. I've watched almost 100 Réactions to this Trilogy but almost all were from men. YOUR Female perspective was SO spot on. And SO needed. ❤

I love that he highlighted generational trauma. In order to break the cycle we need to be willing to talk about these issues openly and honestly.

I loved the look on your face when the twist at the end finally hit you. I could practically feel the chill that ran through you and the rush of goosebumps you got & some Great thoughts and commentary as well.😁🤯❤
This is my understanding of how Ren came to create this trilogy & what (I BELIEVE) the messaging he's wanting us to contemplate.

This wasn't originally a trilogy story. Ren read a small article about a 14 yr old boy killing a young prostitute with a knife in an attempted robbery. Knife crime had been skyrocketing in London at the time he read the article. The paper stated, later that evening the boy had been shot and killed by the armed police division responding to a possible suspect for the girl found murdered in Sussex Gardens in Paddington - (one of the capital's most notorious red light districts). It disturbed him, so he set out to write a commentary on not just on senseless violence, but on how desensitized we've become to it. The words he ends both Jenny and Screech's Tales with is "It's such a Shame" we in society say these words all to often and just move on with our daily lives without a second thought. The the lead inspector at the crime scene was even quoted saying " So Young, It's such a shame".

Violets Tale was written over 2 years later, & I BELIEVE Ren is adding yet another layer of commentary. He wanted us to consider generational violence as well as making us look at all angles of society that we often turn a blind eye to. Both the characters of Jenny & Screech are born out of violence on the cruel night of Violets beating and then both killed with brutal violence in the same night 14yrs later, with Screech killing his twin sister; whom he'd never met or even known to have existed.

Also, Ren's lyrics have even more meaning when you read in between the unspoken lines. For example he doesn't say what Jenny was doing or why she was contemplating escape from this place & life as she walked home late that night, or why Screech thought she was older; when he was knocking at Patrick's door he said "I left this lady lying on the floor". Could it be he thought she was older because of the way Jenny was dressed or maybe the heavy makeup she probably had on? Also why was a 14yr old girl out so late in the dead of night walking alone in a well known sketchy area, wearing high heeled shoes & walking the same streets "she's walked a thousand times before"? Everything points to Jenny being an underage prostitute in this story, (her age being 14 which is revealed only at the end of Violets Tale). This shows us what Ren writes & doesn't write has just as much meaning & impact, forcing his audience into deeper intellectual reflection.

Ren makes me think, how can both of these siblings be so cursed? Both are born out of violence on that cruel night of Violets beating & then both are killed with brutal violence in the same night 14yrs later. Also, it's Interesting how Jenny has the same traits as her mother Violet, quiet, voiceless, and timid. Whereas Screech mirrors his father Stevie in every way, Loud, obnoxious, and easily prone & provoked into violence. They didn't know one another and had never met their biological parents. What made these kids so much like their parents? Was it simply Nature, inherited traits due to their genetic make-up OR Nurture, being brought up in the broken governmental system filled with, mistreated & in many cases, abused children who are shuffled from one foster home to another? He organically takes us on this journey, leaving us to think shouldn't we be doing better in this so called "advanced, wealthy, 1st world society & how can we break this devastating cycle of generational violence?

Cheers & can't wait for your next Ren reaction. Cheers! 🥂

There’s such a parallel between your reaction when it first occurred to you what was happening to Violet (okay, alright, okay… just trying to prepare yourself to keep listening), and the deep breath Ren took before he started walking. That moment always gets me cause you can see how uncomfortable he is as he prepares to tell her story.

I love your reactions, but I'm really sorry to hear about your own experience in facing violence. Having represented a fair share of DV victims myself, I hope that you find a path towards healing and never blame yourself for the situation. It can happen to anyone in a relationship, and there are never any signs beforehand that a partner can turn out to be abusive. Stay strong, and much love to you!
