  Never plug in blindly, ALWAYS open up first and at least check for fire hazards and dangling wires, nests, paperclips, pennies, drugs, ect...

  Carver amps are borderline alien tech, props for even trying to take this on. When they fail, its always dramatic

  I ended up with this amp's big brother, the M-4.0t. I spent a LONG time studying the schematic of this amp and how it worked. Once I understood it, I was able to repair it. You cannot approach these amps the way you'd approach a standard SS power amp; you really do have to understand how all the different parts are working together to understand what's going on. I did start out by recapping the audio boards on mine. One thing to get is that there are really just two pairs of output transistors. The rest of the transistors act like switches to turn on the higher voltage rails as required. Most of the time, the amp will be operating on the +/-50V rails, and since there appears to be excessive current draw on them, start by looking at everything the +/- 50V rails are connected to.

  Back in the day, in my house, the lights going out would be followed by an emphatic  "Craig, what did you do?" coming from downstairs. I wish I would have known about dimbulb testing when I was a Teenager.😁

  That seller got the P.O.S. for free from someone's leaky, outdoor shed. Made up a story about "working when parked" and dumped it off on you. I'm always inspired to dig a little deeper on projects after watching your videos.  Thanks.

  I'm surprised that you didn't plug it into the Dim Bulb Tester as the very FIRST thing.  That's what it's for.

  "I can't fix it"....yet. Most techs can find and fix a single issue quickly. More than one issue complicates things greatly, but good techs will do exactly what you are doing, eliminating one issue at a time and analyzing the symptoms as you go forward. I worked for many years cleaning up issues on many systems where others had given up. (You know, that Friday afternoon phone call where "we've had our guys working on this all week but now we really need it working"). You show a great curiosity about why things do or don't work and that is the key to success, IMHO.  Glad to see you tackling this and remaining thoughtful and *calm*. Take a break and recharge your brain. I can't count the number of times I have given up, and then the solution pops into my head WHILE I am explaining to the customer why I can't fix it. Life is good. Keep up the great work.

  I used to fix carver amps and they can be difficult. I had a troubleshooting guide for that amp. One of the things you were supposed to do was bypass the triac and just run it on the 50 volts. From what you said looking at those op-amps I think they may be bad.
