  Tagesschau is so fundamental that at least my parent&apos;s generation consider it rude to call someone between <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-n79bbJpy0&amp;t=1200">20:00</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-n79bbJpy0&amp;t=1215">20:15</a> because they&apos;ll be disturbed while watching Tagesschau. My dad throws a tantrum every time 😂

  It is important that ARD maintains over 28 foreign bureaus worldwide, thus possessing its own large network of correspondents. This allows the Tagesschau news program to obtain first-hand information.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-n79bbJpy0&amp;t=359">5:59</a> What you’ve forgotten is something even crazier: football matches never take place while Tagesschau is on air. Not national team matches, not UEFA matches with Germany participating, and not FIFA matches with Germany participating. All European Championship and World Cup matches are scheduled around the German Tagesschau. In recent tournaments, group-stage matches often start at 6:00 pm so they are guaranteed to be finished by 8:00 pm, when Tagesschau airs. Late matches, on the other hand, never start before 8:45 pm.

  Public broadcasting in Germany comprises 21 TV channels and 69 radio stations, plus websites, live streams of all programs, and media libraries for all TV channels. All of this is available 24/7/365. It costs just €0.61 or $0.72 per day. And, most importantly, there are NO COMMERCIALS after 8 PM. Movies and sporting events are not interrupted by commercials. Advertising is shown almost exclusively before and after programming. The value for money is excellent! To be honest, to 99% i boykott our german private tv theater.

  Never thought prime time &quot;8.15 pm&quot; is a german only thing, it feels so natural, wether you watch the news or not xD

  Another big difference: German journalism, at least the high quality journalism of Tagesschau and Heute (news from the second public TV channel), makes a point of separating factual news from commentary and opinion. In 9 months in the USA, I don&apos;t remember seeing a single instance where it wasn&apos;t meshed together.

  I remember as a child, the sound of the tagesschau bell was our signal for bedtime. A common experience in my generation (80s and 90s kids)
