What the DEA Stay Actually Means | TDR Cannabis in 5

Let's talk about what actually happened with DEA rescheduling this week, because the headline is getting way more dramatic treatment than the facts support. In this episode of TDR Cannabis in 5, host Shadd Dales breaks down Tuesday's stay issued by DEA Chief Administrative Law Judge Derek Julius, pausing the marijuana rescheduling hearing right before his final recommendation was set to go to the DEA administrator. The stay came after a group opposed to rescheduling, the National Drug and Alcohol Screening Association, DUID Victim Voices, and Dr. Kenneth Finn, asked the judge to add a recent Government Accountability Office report into the hearing record. That report addresses DEA's general internal scheduling process, it says nothing new about marijuana specifically. Julius simply agreed the request deserved a formal look, giving DEA until October 13 to respond. The episode walks through why this is a standard procedural move rather than a substantive setback, DEA's own final brief already argued marijuana no longer meets the legal requirements for Schedule I, backed by a ten-month HHS scientific review and the fact that over thirty thousand practitioners are treating more than six million patients across forty-three states under legal medical programs. None of that changed this week. The episode also revisits the process's history of procedural bumps, a scrapped and restarted Biden-era hearing, multiple lawsuits, a failed congressional effort to block it, and a rejected appeals court injunction request, none of which stopped the process from moving forward. The takeaway: don't confuse a paperwork pause with a policy reversal. 00:00:00 — DEA Rescheduling Stay Explained 00:00:42 — ALJ Derek Julius Pauses Hearing 00:01:10 — Opponents Push GAO Report 00:01:50 — DEA Gets October 13 Deadline 00:02:15 — Rescheduling Case Remains Unchanged 00:03:08 — Previous Challenges Failed to Halt Process 00:03:59 — What Happens Next for Rescheduling #TDRCannabisIn5 #DEARescheduling #MarijuanaRescheduling #ScheduleIII #DerekJulius #CannabisPolicy #CannabisNews #FederalCannabisPolicy #CannabisReform #GAOReport #Trump #TrumpAdministration Want to see more Cannabis Reform? 🎬 PA Senator Proposes Regulated Hemp Market ... 🎬 Cannabis Rescheduling's Next Step: Making ... 🎬 Three Senate Seats Could Legalize Cannabis... 🎬 Paxton's Alcohol Ties Raise Real Questions...
