I stopped at one of the big box stores this morning, going though the ammo section and to say I was surprised, they had some 9 mm ball ammo in boxes of fifty but not many, very little defensive loads, no .45 ACP in semi wad cutter, just some ball and defensive loads and not many of that. .40 cal, .38 special., surprisinly they had .38 super, and .380 ( not much of that ). .22LR and a relative amount of some ( to me ) odd ball ammo, plenty of shotgun ammo ( so far ), center fire ammo. According to one gun shop guy, the previous administration let ammo stocks get really low, now the current administration is trying to being back the amount of ammo stocks to what they were, even with what is going on overseas. What with the military having gone to the 9 mm, police and law enforcement and you and me wanting the 9 mm, I'm told that it might be awhile before things get back to normal, if ever. thanks for letting me vent guys

I WILL STICK TO MY MINI - 14 , I BOUGHT IT IN THE LATE 80'S , IT HAS ONLY JAMMED ON ME ONE TIME ABOUT 2 OR 3 WEEKS AGO, I BOUGHT 3 MAGPULL MAGS 42 ROUND, I PUT ONE IN MY MINI - 14, FIRST SHOT THE GUN JAMMED, I TOOK OUT THE MAG, AND DECIDED I WILL NEVER PUT ANY MAGS NO MATTER THE BRAND OTHER THAN A RUGER MAG AGAIN, I HAVE SHOT IT SINCE THE LATE 80'S AND IT HAS FUNCTIONED PERFECTLY UNTIL THE MAG PULL MAG.

Hmmmm, this could be j a commercial for Ruger. Oh, wait, it is
How about a 9mm PPC, a bolt-action .,308, a pocket pistol, revolver, assault rifle
With no apology at all to Jeff Cooper, he took the Lee-Enfield Mark #5 and modified it into the Scout rifle concept
Additional, there are plenty of good 22's!

a crossbow will drop a cow and that's calories. However, it makes far more sense to just scatter-bury a year's supply of food at your BOL. That costs about $1000 per person, if you go at it intelligently. Hunting, even trapping, exposesyou to being shot. You defiinitly need a shorty AR-15 with a silencer, night sights, trigger job, scope OPTION, 22lr conversion unit, 60 gr Aguila subsonic 22 ammo and 60 gr Nosler partition softpoint 223 ammo. you do NOT want to handicap yourself with anything noisy, any shotgun, bolt,-action, etc. Ar-15's are PLENTY rugged and reliable enough. If such were not the case, they woiuld not have been the USGI rifle for the past 55 years. The game will all be gone 2 months after shtf, Starving dog packs will see to that (and attack YOU, especially at night) if you "think" that you can just set up camp in the woods. There's LOTS more horsea and cattle than elk and moose and lots of more hogs and sheep than deer. Domestic animals are not disturbed by having a human get withiin 10m of them at night and then you can put that BB gun quiet, subsonic 22 bullet right into their brain, thru their temple or eyeball. The 223 silencer has FAR more volumetric potential to cool and slow down hot powder gases than is needed for the 22 and the subsonic load precludes the "sonic crack" issue that you have with normal, supersonic 22 ammo. The heavy 60 gr bullet cycles the action reliably if rapidfire is more of a conocern to you than maximum noise suppression. Hold shut the bolt with your thumb, firing left handed, if silence and lack of flash are your main desires at the moment. The 60 gr Aquila subsonic load has the same momentum and energy of the normal 22lr rd, and the latter has brained millions of large animals in the last century.
