  I had a baby in 2008. I got a baby monitor as a gift. Shortly after my son was born i set it up in his room. It was kinda like a walkie talkie in the way that i could only hear, i couldnt talk thru it, and there was no video. I woke up one night not bc my baby was crying, instead i heard 2 men talking. I flipped out thinking someone was in my house. Then i realized it was coming from the baby monitor. Turns out it was on the same frequency as truck drivers CB radios.

  The man who said he was trained by Jesus Christ appeared calm, said he wanted to demonstrate what he knew, and was told by the dojo’s owner to spar with or demonstrate his skills to a student.<br><br>Sparring should not mean severely hurting someone. Given the man’s unusual claims, they should have recognized that he might have been experiencing mental health issues. If they believed he posed a threat, highly trained martial artists should have had the discipline, restraint, and skill to subdue him without nearly beating him to death—or possibly killing him. They should have prevented further harm and called for help, not beaten him bloody and thrown him in the garbage.<br><br>Martial arts is supposed to teach discipline, self-control, kindness, and knowing when force is necessary. Instead, an instructor who appeared to be white directed a Black student to spar with another Black man, who then beat him so severely that he may have died. That bothers me deeply, especially because the victim was reportedly homeless and mentally ill. Being part of the martial arts community should never override basic humanity, and there is a clear difference between defending yourself and brutalizing someone who needs help.<br><br>I’m also not surprised that the investigation went nowhere. The instructor reportedly trained police, bodyguards, Marines, and others in those circles, which makes me question whether a “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” mentality played a role. I cannot prove that, but given the way institutions have historically treated Black people, homeless people, poor people, and those with mental illness, I’m not surprised the case may not have received the attention it deserved. The fact that the instructor apparently posted the video himself makes it even more disturbing; to me, it seemed almost like bragging.<br><br>This situation reflects how society and institutions can treat vulnerable people as though their lives are worthless. Whatever issues that man was facing, he needed help—not violence. He didn’t deserve what happened to him.
