  Kids that live out on a farm especially back then learn to shoot early. &nbsp;Hunting for food, &nbsp;killing dangerous wildlife, &nbsp;or protecting yourself when the law is far away are some reasons why.

  In colonial America, young boys grew up with a hunting rifle in their hands. It was a tool, not a dangerous animal.

  America didn&apos;t start conscription for their armies until the Civil War 85 years later. The Continental Army and the Militias were all volunteers.

  This movie actually does get a lot of things historically correct. The American colonists really did carry out an insurgency campaign in the Carolinas using militia to keep the British in the south. That was all legit. The strategy of having the militia fire twice, then retreating at the Battle of Cowpens was 100% accurate. It just wasn&apos;t &quot;Benjamin Martin&apos;s&quot; idea; it was Daniel Morgan&apos;s.
