  The truth should be told. If you don't connect with the guitar it doesn't matter if the guitar cost $10,000.00.

  LOst count of the number of times I told someone 'Go to a guitar shop, pick up some guitars and the one that feels most comfortable to you the second you have it in your hands, that's probably the one you should get'

  Everything is marketing hype. If it stays in tune, doesn't hurt you, is set up nicely, and most importantly, speaks to you, then it's a winner.

  Status Quo in the ‘70’s had their tour van thieved. They took all the flashy new guitars and left the knackered green Tele in the corner - the best guitar in the van, the versatile stage guitar that had been twiddled and modded by a very smart guitarist Francis Rossi, way smarter than most music critics will ever know. A guitar is a machine, just like a car. My car is 20 years old, its paint is peeling, the headliner is falling down, the seats have holes, it’s cosmetically dilapidated. It still looks good, it passes its MoT, it’s safe, efficient and it’s reliable. its comfortable and I can’t see its shape or ‘style’ or ‘look’ when I’m driving it. It costs very little to maintain, I don’t do many miles in it. All tech is the same. Marketing tells us to buy new - tat puts your hard earned cash into someone else’s hands. Leo Fender couldn’t play guitar but he was an engineer, he was smart. If it looks like a pile of crap and it’s comfortable and plays and YOU like it, you have it made 😎 it’s the design that matters and the quality of the manufacture and mass manufacture that is repeatable that is precise. All that glitters is not gold.

  I&apos;m a life-long vintage collector who has owned pretty much everything (except an original V or Explorer, I guess). &nbsp;Here&apos;s the deal: &nbsp;because of CNC machining and improved quality control, new guitars these days are mostly excellent instruments. &nbsp;In the 1970s, when I started collecting, new guitars were absolutely terrible. &nbsp;CBS at Fender, Norlin at Gibson, etc. &nbsp;So, if you wanted a top-notch instrument you had to go vintage. &nbsp;No choice. &nbsp;Now, that is no longer the case. &nbsp;Are vintage guitars worth it? &nbsp;It depends. &nbsp;There are a small number that are truly magical, and they keep the whole craze going. &nbsp;Many are nothing special. &nbsp;That&apos;s the truth, guys.

  Setup, setup setup.... it does make all the difference. &nbsp;I was so happy to hear you come around to this. &nbsp; My advice for anyone who is just picking up the guitar is to get it set up. &nbsp;If it doesn&apos;t play well and doesn&apos;t sounds good, you won&apos;t want to play it.

  The best &quot;feel&quot; I have gotten from any guitars were from:<br> 1. A well used, heavily gigged Yamaha SE-350H from the 1980s, covered in stickers. Belongs to someone else, original owner passed away. I can&apos;t explain, but I have played it a dozen times over the past 2 years and each time I play beyond my ability level. It&apos;s eerie.<br>2. A Squier Strat built in Japan circa 1984. Gaudy sparkle candy blue with a sublime neck that came alive under my fingers, even with dead strings. I gave it a proper setup and it was magical. Owner doesn&apos;t play guitar, would not sell it to me. Still has it and doesn&apos;t touch it.
