My garage door (the one that rolls up) does not have an opener. It has two locks on the inside that have to be unlocked from the inside. I turned my HVAC system and municipal water off a few years ago. I have a Well in my front yard with a Hand Pump. I have cheaper Ways to Cool my Home in the Summer and a cheaper way to keep warm in the Winter. My Mail Box fell down several years ago and I pickup my mail from the Post Office. I have hidden cameras on my house and garage with Battery Backup, HARD wired, monitor in the bedroom and DVR is hidden. I also have four dogs and three cats in my house for Rodent and Robber protection. The two larger dogs are Doberman Mix. I only mow my lawn about once every three weeks. Everyone even thieves casing the joint knows this. I have a NON-LETHAL system that will make a criminal think twice before ever trying to come into my home again. Even LE do not want to risk it. If they do, I can guarantee that they will never try it again. It will make everyone very embarrassed and they will not be able to do whatever they came to do.

If I am going away, even for one night, I shut off the main water to my home.

At 19:45 the thief has apparently put his hand through the solid side of the mailbox to grab the mail. That's impossible and illogical. BTW mail theft doesn't just happen on rural roads. It can happen anywhere with a streetside mailbox, like the neighborhood shown at 23:33. It only takes a few seconds for a teenager walking home from school to casually flip your mailbox door open, take whatever is in there, and flip it closed without pausing long enough for anyone to notice him.

I never thought of vehicle legal papers etc. TYSM. I have one key. I hold it. I lock my large garage door opener every day.

Just blinding the eye level half of your windows wouldn't deter a burglar from standing on a ladder or something else that's available to raise his up so he can see through the upper part that is unblinded. He could still see into the room from there.

Now I know why the guy mowed one year when I was at Dudleyfest for a long weekend. NC was dry. My grass was brown and crunchy and not growing. He said that it was so there would be people and activity while I was gone. I paid him for being security, because I still don't know what was there to mow. His mother goes to my church and probably put him up to it since I was info dumping about Dudleyfest and the animal sanctuary before I went to anyone who would listen

Putting one's mail on hold only works if the P.O. actually does hold your mail. We had one time when we had placed our mail on hold, but someone either didn't get the message or it was ignored, or whatever, and they continued delivering our mail. When we returned home, our extra large mailbox was filled to its capacity. The P.O. had failed to hold it as we had instructed.

A contractor who doesn't return a key he was given? If I were that homeowner, I would contact him and demand that he return my key. If he refuses or claims he lost it, I would then contact his employer. Keeping a homeowner's key when it's no longer needed amounts to theft. And that's legally actionable.
