  Ab-Soul said in an interview “i” was made for you to love yourself. He said Kendrick is literally making you love yourself when he performs it live. Said you legit have to say “I love myself” repeatedly… this song came 10X better when I heard that

  I LOVE how on &quot;Institutionalized&quot; you got the deeper meaning immediately away from the surface meaning. So the hook is pretty much saying things wont change for you until you change yourself. The surface/literal meaning is he brought his hood friends to the award show and away the poverty but that mentality is still in them. In the hood they rob these dudes to get by in life and now they surrounded by &quot;easy licks&quot; (you can take the homie out the hood but you cant take the hood out the homie.) The deeper part is HE IS THAT GUY HIMSELF! Hes blowing up so all this is new to him and he still have those natural hood instincts so &quot;shit wont change&quot; until he changes his mindset as well.
