I remember how cocky intel was back then, they even mocked ryzen as "glued together" rather than trying to understand it and out compete it.... and this is the result

Intels downfall was when they basically just nickled and dimed their customer with the same processors with 4 cores over and over again changing only small details, at the same time they threw out a ton of engineers and researchers to boost their stock value, that was before AMD brought out Ryzen as last high risk effort to survive! They have not recovered from that until today.

Jim Keller is an underrated legend in designing chips. Was involved in x86-64 architecture, was a designer on Athlon 64, went to Apple to design A4 and A5, co-designed Hyper transport, came back to AMD during their Bulldozer debacle and helped design Zen processor. <br><br>Now he is busy making tools make low cost small scale foundries.

Quick fact:<br>When Ryzen 1000 series released, all of its sales still end up with NEGATIVE Profits.<br>All sales of Ryzen 1000 were immediately used to pay the debt, and that wasn't enough.<br><br>And then, Ryzen 2000 series, AMD only making single digit profit from all of its sales.<br>Eventually paid off all those debt with Ryzen 2000 series.<br><br>The true revolutionary was Ryzen 3000. That's when AMD suddenly making 90% Profit.

Funny enough it was Intel who actually conspired against AMD back in the Windows XP days that allowed them to really take off in the market.

I'm a proud owner of a 1st Gen Ryzen CPU (1500X) that is still running to this day. Soon after that I got the 3900X then lastly the 5950X. I stopped here for now as it's so powerful I have no need to upgrade. I also own an Intel 2700k which was a legendary CPU back then. It's been a fun ride and I'll be sticking to AMD as long as they don't stop innovating and not get too greedy like Synology and NVIDIA. 😮💨

Man, I was that guy who always ran AMD from the early 2000s on. I did it in part bc of Intel was always cocky. My gaming buddies would laugh. I said you'll see one day, they'll take over, thinking not really. Anyhow got a divorce in 2015 and drank too much to keep up with the industry. To finally get back on track and seeing Ryzen rise like a Phoenix, I was amazed. I'll never use Intel, just bc I bet on the underdog and they came through. That's my personal story with AMD.

Bottom line - there is a direct link between chip size and yield. Yield is the primary factor in price. So the idea to split the device into small bits and "glue" them together is a good one.

An Intel got lazy, and they tried to just continue riding their coattails on the i7 i-9 dominance and then made the same chip just different versions of it for 4 years in a row because they still can't get the technology to work for a smaller nanometer. Which they're still at 14 I think or 10 meanwhile AMD's rises are now sitting at a seven and going down to four nanometer process which is more optimized unless heat and less power hungry chips but massively improved performance numbers

Where are the folks bought a i5 $260 7600K, 8600K or 9600K when AM4 came out with 6 core 12 thread Ryzen 5 1600X/1600?:face-blue-smiling::face-blue-smiling::face-blue-smiling:

I'm still using my Ryzen 1800X on my main desktop rig. (Using it to write this!) I nicknamed the build "AMD Ryzing", and my optimism was well placed. I might upgrade to Zen 6 when it releases.

i recently built a workstation with AMD Ryzen 5 9600x processor. Intel is greedy enough to lock-down ECC function to their W series Chipsets, AMD on the other hand Leaves the ECC function usable, ECC is a big deal, it sets apart a normal computer from a work computer because your business depends on it.
