I was a young kid, it was 1973 and our class took a field trip to a small radio station in San Rafael Ca. After a presentation by the DJ he gave us each a 45 from an artist. I got Emerson Lake & Palmer. Both the A and B sides were radio cut versions of what would eventually be on the release of “Brain Salad Surgery. The B side was “Still, you turn me on” and the A side was Brain Salad Surgery. I put it on my phonograph with my headphones on and my life changed forever. Both tracks were so amazingly unique and just incredible. The radio release versions were far greater than what went on the album. I was blown away by the room reverb on “Still”, and the entire composition on BSS. I instantly became a life long unsuccessful Musician and a successful audio engineer. To this day that field trip is a highlight in my life. Thanks ELP.

This album has been a part of my life since its release in 1973. To watch them piece it together here, is enough to choke me up a little. Just seeing them shoot those glances of approval at each other during the process, awesome!

Fun fact: That bassline that Greg is practising was the one my bass guitar teacher gave me back in the 1980s to get my speed and dexterity up to scratch. Great memory! 😄
