  We have a lot of writers and directors who disdain the original material and want to tell their own story, can’t get their stories made, so they take an “adaptation” and force their story into it. The result is as expected.

  Even when an anime is faithful to the original source material, it doesn&apos;t stop the directors from flexing their creative muscles. <br>Anime like Frieren have many scenes where the directors &amp; storyboarders took creative liberties to elevate the source material.

  Western stories aren&apos;t losing their relevance. They are being as diluted and bastardized into something that is unrecognizable and carries a completely different meaning. <br><br>The original stories maintain their timelessness and relevance to the human condition. It&apos;s a certain part of humanity that&apos;s changing, not the stories. A timeless narrative about humanity, of course will not be relevant to somebody who is delusional and deliberately ignoring reality.

  Every one of these writers want sooo bad to manufacture their own &quot;Kubrick&apos;s &apos;The Shining&apos;&quot; moment for their careers, completely oblivious to the fact such a moment could only occur if they had talent, tact, and, debatably, an audience who isn&apos;t already intimately aware of the source material.

  Adaptation 101 - remain as true to the source material as possible <br>do not alienate the fans of the original material who made the IP lucrative enough to adapt in the first place

  Time ago the drastic changes were made mainly for budget reasons, but nowadays they manage huge budgets and cutting edge FX.

  Really good essay guys. You could make an entire video on how modern writers attempt to justify their changes and have the audacity that they can make something better than the original that has withstood the test time. If they had that kind of ability and talent then they would make something original.

  Oh, the irony of that GRRM quote. He adapted one of Roger Zelazny&apos;s most delicate fantasy stories for Twilight Zone, and absolutely shredded it in the process.
