'In Cold Blood" is one of the few books that I just could not stop reading. Such a heartbreaking yet compelling true story.

I was a court reporter 50 years later in the courtroom where the Clutter trial was held. It had hardly changed. My office had been the killers' jail cell.

I read In Cold Blood when I was 13 in 1969. Took the Santa Fe Super Chief from Chicago to Gallup, New Mexico that summer. Strange feelings going through Garden City thinking of the book. 6 years later my boss in a restaurant on the Oregon coast said Truman Capote was in the bar sitting at a table with a friend. I wanted to see the man who's words had scared me so deeply as a kid. I recognized Capote immediately. He was eating a cheeseberger with a blanket over his legs to keep the chill off from the ocean breeze. How could such a frail looking man be so powerful? Like you've done in this video our stories are our lives, and our lives create our stories. For better, or worse.

Harper Lee grew up with Capote. She told someone once he was a psychopath. He seems to have been narcissistic, but could not get over the guilt of using Perry for a book he knew would be extraordinary. He didn’t mind turning on the NY socialites either. I think what he went through with writing ICB ruined him finally.

The account of the Clutter family murders is magnetic. It drew the attention of a lot of people even before the book and the movie simply because of the horror of it. Very good video.

I’m encouraged whenever young people reach back to see for themselves what makes a classic, a classic. Your experience was a delight to hear. I want more.

You have much more nerve than I do going there! I live west of Holcomb and have for many years. Mr. Capote’s book introduced me to the Clutters. What happened to them was pure tragedy. I have driven through Holcomb on my way to Eastern Kansas. I could actually do a day trip I am so close, but can’t bring myself to do it. They were such good people and so widely admired. One day perhaps I’ll have the nerve to lay some flowers at their resting place.

I read the book as part of my English Literature class in the mid-late 1990s. Literally scared the crap out of me and horrified me at the same time. Mind you I lived in a little town called Holyoke Colorado, not to far from the western Kansas border.

Susan Kidwell found the bodies . . . she was the person who went in. She was a college roommate of my mother at the University of Kansas. Truman Capote was the finest writer in the history of this country. In Cold Blood was a masterpiece. Buy it, read it. This post is very well done, sir, thank you for sharing.

I was allowed in the old Clutter farmhouse back in 2007 and photographed every room in the house. It was completely surreal especially given that the 1968 film ICB was actually filmed in the actual house where the crimes took place.
