  Like Capote, I am an observer.  A blessing and a curse.  I understand his curiousity about people having boring or dull conversations.

  Historical true crime author here. Capote certainly did not invent the 'non--fiction novel.' Plenty of talented true crime authors before him, all winners of the Edgar Allan Poe award, were writing great true crime non-fiction novels before him. In Cold Blood was the best book of them all, but sorry, just not the first. I could get in to how detective fiction influenced early true crime writing in all the old detective magazines, and the non-fiction influenced fiction writers back again, but it would take a good essay. I have a personal library of 350 vintage true crime magazines and 300 vintage true crime books (250 of them digital), and most of those books and magazines predate Capote's book. But Capote did infuse an elevated syntax of mythologizing the entire case with a poetic-like literary style into his work that the genre rarely sees. He uncovered the deeper layers of the humanity and inhumanity of the case that told a deeper story. The style before and after mythologized the detectives, and over emphasized the sexual aspects but in a low-class way that devolved into murder-porn. It's late, I'm tired, and I wish I could have explained that better.

  I bet you she was dying to talk about the real question, bc she wasn&apos;t known for holding back ..Im surprised she didn&apos;t ask if he was a homosexual, but she kept referring to him as different or odd..
