Former SSBN crewman here and I used to walk the boat amazed by it's engineering. They're just fantastic at what they're built to do.

There are 14 Ohio class submarines outfitted for nuclear weapons. Another 4 for cruise missiles.
4 of the 24 silos are limited due to treaties. There’s also treaties limiting the warhead capacity although it is known that older trident missiles could carry 12 warheads. Assuming all 14 ssbn’s ignored treaties , they could launch a total of 336 trident missiles. This would mean a payload of 4,032 warheads, the W76 warheads , each with a 100 kiloton payload, or alternatively 2,688 W88 warheads, each warhead would carry 475 kilotons. In comparison to the Hiroshima Little boy which was 15 and Nagasaki Fat man which was 21.

TLDR , there’s an unbelievable amount of nuclear destruction on these.

I was assigned to the Michigan while she was being built. I did sea trails and was part of the commissioning crew. I did 6 patrols total on her. Best boat I ever served on, awesome crew.
