"Black eyes" could mean she had dilated pupils, which is a common symptom of seizures.

See, this is why I appreciate your channel so much. Every other video I've seen makes it sound like Anneliese got sick and her family immediately jumped to demonic possession without bothering to seek medical help. This makes it sound more like a family at their wits end, looking for answers for their daughter. I think most people could understand that.

The first episode sounds like classic sleep paralysis, which if you have ever had it you know it’s absolutely terrifying.

I cannot even imagine the amount of suffering this child went through. I hope she is at peace now, finally.

I think Anneliese’s story is in the best hands. You are such a good story teller and can recognize when a case needs more time than 30 minutes.

I really wouldn't be surprised if her epileptic events made her frightened. And the various antiseizure medications could have unleashed some kind of schizophrenic episodes that really scared her because of how religious she was raised. She was so focused on getting into heaven so it makes sense why her hallucinations were religiously oriented. The smells she talked about make me think about olfactory hallucinations that could have solidified her thoughts it was a devil or evil demon. I feel terrible for this girl and her struggles were very real to her. And as someone that has been on antiepileptic medications, I can say from personal experience that I've had some strange unusual side effects that outweighed the benefits.

I'm an epileptic, and often with "mild" seizures where I dont fully black out, I'll get wild visuals, phantom smells, body sensations that couldn't possibly be happening, etc. So it all seems very consistent with, at least how I experience it, epilepsy.

I was born into an Irish catholic family . I honestly had no idea baptism
was classed as an exorcism. Nobody can say they come away from Stephanie’s videos without at least a grain of new knowledge 🤓

I have borderline personality with some psychotic features and the psychotic episodes I’ve had definitely look (and feel) like possession. I had a day a few months ago when I forgot to take my anti-psychotics and didn’t realize it. I got such an extremely unsettling feeling, it was like it was actually radiating through my body, and I was trying to figure out if I had died or was in limbo or something. I started googling “how to know if someone put a curse on you.” I’ve been an atheist and a non-believer in ghosts and the supernatural all of my life, but on that day I truly felt that something otherworldly must be going on, because there was no other way I could possibly feel so alien and disconnected.

This family being as religious as they were, I would honestly be shocked if they didn’t wholeheartedly believe that Annalise was possessed. Especially at a time when psychology as a science was still fairly new, there was probably no other explanation in the eyes of Annalise’s family.

It's common for patients with Tonic Clonic Epilepsy to smell weird things before a seizure. It can part of the "aura", a sensory experience which tells a person a fit is coming. I have never heard of other people also smelling it though! Excellent storytelling, looking forward to the rest.

Their instance that she was possessed drives me nuts. Let's say she was, and exorcism 275 worked. Demons leaving the body isn't going to fix the malnutrition and dehydration, shed then need medical help. So jfc get her help first. Demon Hitler isn't going to change the effects of IV fluids at a hospital.

At the very least get her physical body help before trying again (though with any luck, the hospital would have intervened to get her away from that, and personally I believe that why she wasn't taken. One look at her and they'd have the police on the line before they were able to give them her full name)
