  STEFAN EDBERG—what a fantastic, intelligent tennis player and charismatic person! It fills me with great joy to have watched these great tennis players on TV as a child and teenager and to have often “copied” one or two of their strokes, such as their serve, on the tennis court myself...until I soon found my own playing style. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Stefan Edberg and many more wonderful and healthy years to come!

  Im a serve and Volley fan because its the highest level of skill and precision in Tennis when done correctly. &nbsp;Its extremely difficult to devlop though and even professional players can look like complete bafoons when they try it. &nbsp;I can talk all day about Edberg but in terms of history... greatest Serve and Volleyer and greatest volleys in history in terms of technique. &nbsp;Also the greatest player in terms of all court movement. &nbsp;Edbergs precise footwork on the baseline is only topped by his footwork at net. &nbsp;Edbergs return of serve is also extremely underated and his backhand is basically the standards by which all other backhands are judges. &nbsp;Its basically the cleanest and most precise one handed backhand in history (Connors is the cleanest for 2 handers). &nbsp;Edbergs forearnd gets labelled as a weakness but while be didnt base his game around it Edberg could hurt people with his forehand particularly his running forehand. &nbsp;He could also pass with the forehand so it was very difficult to attack, aproach on, and exploit. &nbsp;<br><br>All around best vollers...<br><br>Edberg - All Around best volley in terms of clean technique (Laver is #2)<br>Reflex and volleying against power - Rafter... nobody comes close to Rafter in this area ( Rafter also has argueably the best forehand volley. #2 is &nbsp;Newcomb). &nbsp;Improvised volleys also tops with Rafter<br>Pat Cash - King of the backhand shoelace volley... nobody even close<br>Tony Roche - Best all around backhand Volley<br>Jimmy Connors - Best two handed Volley (nobody else is close) <br>Best Touch volleys - McEnroe. &nbsp;Mcenroe could not handle extreme power though because he is naturally more relaxed on volleys. &nbsp;Rafters almost inhuman ability to handle raw power largely comes from his suprior althetecism and quickness in terms of positioning on the volley. &nbsp; &nbsp;<br><br>What you have with Stephen Edberg though is basically poetry in motion for the greatest serve and volley player of all time. &nbsp;Rafter comes close but Rafter is more physically explosive and violent in terms of movement. &nbsp;Rafters last year on Tour he was at the level of Edberg IMO on his service games but the injuries just broke down his will to train like he needed to. &nbsp;<br><br>People these days think of S&amp;V as one style but within S&amp;V there are also different styles. &nbsp;Edberg is basically the most occomplished version of that style due to it being so smooth, efficient, and technically sound.
