The Real Reason Christians Won’t Question Their Faith

The Real Reason Christians Won’t Question Their Faith Why are so many Christians willing to defend their faith but unwilling to seriously question it? In this video, I explore the real reason Christians often resist investigating the claims at the foundation of Christianity. The issue may be deeper than simply having strong religious beliefs. When Christianity becomes tied to identity, family, community, morality, purpose and even the fear of death, questioning the faith can begin to feel less like intellectual curiosity and more like an existential threat. We examine *identity-protective cognition, cognitive dissonance, religious conformity, evangelism, Christian apologetics and the social psychology of belief* to understand why questioning Christianity can feel like betrayal. What would happen if Christians investigated their own claims using the same standards of evidence they use everywhere else? A genuine search for truth requires more than finding evidence that confirms what you already believe. It requires seeking disconfirmation, examining biblical scholarship and history, comparing Christianity with other religions, applying consistent standards of evidence and being willing to change your mind if the evidence doesn't support your conclusion. As a former pastor turned secular humanist, I also examine what happens when faith stops functioning as a search for truth and becomes something people must protect in order to protect themselves. This isn't simply about whether Christianity is true. It's about whether Christians are actually willing to find out.
