Nice build you are doing! I have a oilhead that I have been running with turbo for about 25 years. To save you some time and money I can give you some recommendations. Small twin turbos can look cool but it will give you much more trouble than a singel turbo setup. I was planning to do a twin turbo setup myself before common sens set in. If you can call it common sens to turbo convert a BMW boxer.😄 If you only have one cylinder / turbo it is often difficult get it to work properly both because of the exhaust pulses and also the smaller exhaust volume. One more thing that I strongly recommend is to go for much smaller pipe diameter from the cylinder to the turbo to increase the exhaust speed. That will spinn the turbos faster and decrease turbo lag. Also decreased the compression if you are running turbos! Even if you are running high octane fule and can adjust the timing you will probably have some pre detonation. This problem will be even bigger if you are not using an intercooler. I strongly advise you to consider an intercooler because it will create more safety with less exhaust temp and less risk for melting the pistons. Also remember to build a big volume plenum with long intake tubes, that will increase driveabillity and the torque from low rpm. Using carbs for an old bike look good but can be difficult to get the pressurizing of the carbs correct. Going EFI will save you a lot of time and trouble. If you get everything working with the engine properly and you probably will, you have the next challenge. The drivetrain! Turbos add a lot of torque and it looks like you installed a standard clutch plate. The standard disc will most likely slipp if you have tuned the engine correctly. Use a ceramic clutch plate that will solve the issue. On my bike I have broken so many gearboxes I have lost count. To my knowledge the airheads gearboxes are even weaker so you might consider to reinforce the gearbox. I don't run high boost on my bike, only about 0.6-0.7 bar, but that torque break gearboxes! Hope you don't see this as criticizing your work because I think it's excellent and your builds are really great.👍 I just try help you on the right way so you don't make some costly mistakes. Keep up the good work!

Really cool! I always wondered what lurked inside those "casiest" of engine cases. The thing looks like a suitcase! So simplistic and geometric and clean on the outside. Now i see whats what. Really precise engineering. The good old days. They dont build them like that anymore.
Looking forward to watching the completion.
Well done!

Always good to see another video from you, greatwork on the engine, a real treat to see it being assembled correctly, good colour scheme for it, classic looks, look forward to the fire up, regards Nigel from England.

You need to look at what was done to these engines to get them to hold together with increased power back in the day…. Butter and Smith raced these things extensively, later Matt Capri (former Butler and Smith employee) built lots of high HP turbo airheads at his company “Luftmister”. There were lots of tricks necessary to get these things hold together under boost, such as plugging and cross drilling the cranks to increase the oil flow to the bearings, porting around the oil pump, longer/stronger valve springs, hardened buttons on the lifters to accept the push rods, nitrided lifters, stronger aluminum push rods, four paw clutches, transmission mods, etc.
