Remember kids, if you can't afford it now, you can't afford it later either.

I thought the “financing your burrito” thing was just a meme. My jaw was ON THE FLOOR when I saw it was a real partnership

They made debt normal by loading everyone up with student debt before a lot of people even earned a dime. When you're behind so far from the start you can't ever win a lot of people just quit caring.

Worth mentioning this is all exacerbated by the social media climate we’ve cultivated. With our lives more publicly visible than ever before, there’s even more stigma against showing signs of having ‘less-than’ or none at all.

My parents taught me to use a credit card as a debit card. I fully pay off all of my credit cards every single month, usually multiple times per month. No way I would ever carry a balance. Thats what they want you to do and thats why those incentives are there.

Glad i grew up lower-middle class. Debt was just out of the question. If I can't afford it on the spot, I won't buy it.

Credit card companies hire psychologists to engineer ways to make you overspend and pay more in interest/fees.

I have a parent who works in debt collection. And I tell you, listening to their stories all my life has been a very good motivator to be mindful with my money, ever since I was a child. Lately, there's been a surge in young people's debts ending up in the company's portfolio, and it's horrible to deal with.

Bad ending: the whole world is now Brazil.

Jokes aside, this has been the defacto way to pay for anything in Brazil for decades and is expected from any services operating there. So much so, that many big websites had to rewrite their fintech stack to accommodate for it.

I lived a large part of my adult life not knowing you could spend more than you had on your account. I still live by that ☺️
