Studebaker was at least a decade ahead of the big 3 in styling and engineering, and they didn’t have the money or facilities of their competitors. <br>I often think how sad it is that the company didn’t survive.

After the war my dad wanted to buy a Studebaker but the waiting list was almost 2 years so he bought a used Dodge instead. Then in 1956 he got remarried and his new in-laws gave the happy couple a new Studebaker Power Hawk. I honestltly don't know which made him happier. Plus I got some of my earliest driving lessons in it. Great memories.

Had an uncle who was a Studebaker fan, maybe from when they built wagons. Had a 1953, first car; self-adjisters on brake shoes destroyed brake drums--dangerous; ignition wiring had to be sealed with hair spray, or car umstartable in damp weather. A learning experience.

Mine never came close to 100. Fun looking at the beautiful Studebakers, though.

I own a 2008 Smart Fortwo car. 70 horsepower 3 cylinder engine manufacturered by Mitsubishi rearwheel drive with a 5 speed automatic with automated clutch. Basically a manual transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Just like Studebaker car, it is extremely tough built and with only 70 hp, it leaves many cars in the dust from stop lights. Lightweight, aerodynamic, comfortable and good fuel mileage which could be better if it wasn't so much fun to hot rod around with. This, like the Studebaker commander, it is a sleeper.
